This morning was an early start (6 AM) to catch the TGV train to Geneva. We had to take the metro to Paris Lyon, where we bought lunch for on the train, and then caught it to Switzerland. It was a bit slower than the Eurostar and took around 4:30. Otherwise it all went smoothly though. Once in Geneva, we caught the tram to CERN, the end of the line, and were slowly transferred ...

Woke up to another beautiful day. Hotel Pavillon had been excellent and a great place to relax for the night. Dinner was a 5 course meal with great wine to celebrate harriet's birthday. Next stop Lavachey, still in Italy but just a small hamlet. -- ...

Continuing on our journey, we traversed the mountain staying pretty flat with the odd up and down, ...

... downhill descent that felt like it went on forever, 5 minutes of walking seemed like we were the same distance away from the bottom as 5 minutes before. Finally we reached the bottom at a tiny hamlet where there was a quaint little restaurant with a smelly toilet. We started an uphill journey yet again for 35 minutes. We were all very exhausted by the time we reached the top where there was another small ...

... end of the lake. A very rainy start to the day steadily cleared. As usual negotiating through a succession of tiny French villages, on roads that are always too narrow, makes driving 'interesting'... Our Tom Tom GPS has made a big difference - but still whoever is not driving, is often acting as a navigator too. Often, but not always, their helpful advice is gracefully acknowledged by the driver... ...
