... no money in the pocket, the forest my chosen nightly home...
Convinced of the rightiously of my chosen life style I leave the Imbiss cycling back down the road, back to that small forest I discovered a few kilometer before reaching Torun, back to that small lake where the forest frogs were huge and bold, their loud frog communication will be the music to my weary ears that I heard last night while drinking beer with ...
Toruń (Thorn), located almost in the centre of Poland on the Wisła (Vistula) river, is a birthplace of Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus), and its interesting Old Town belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It takes about 25 minutes to walk from the Toruń Główny main railway station to the city centre, which is situated on the opposite bank of the river. Now, the Vistula river in Toruń is quite large so the bridge that you ...
... a café, Union Pacific, right on the main plaza who makes a Polish specialty, Manekin which is basically a crepe. Also have a crepe for desert. Mmmm….
I am becoming an even bigger fan of the net-PC. While connections have been limited, I have been able to save lots of info to my PC. For example, foods of Poland from Wikipedia. I can have an idea what I am ordering when no English menu is available.
It is daylight for an extended period. I have ...
... I was stunned at how pretty the city centre was as we cross a long bridge over the Vistula River (longest river in Poland I believe as it flows from the Tatra Mountains down in the south near the Slovakian border through Krakow and Warsaw then through Torun all the way to Gdansk and the Baltic Sea). I hadn't heard of Torun before I moved to Edinburgh. Then I heard a lot about it as my flatmate in Edinburgh was from Torun. Basically him telling ...
Torun, Central Poland, Poland eileenj... I didn't find any youth hostel in the centre (I've learn afterwards, that there was one...but not in my guide, but foundable in internet), so I staid in one of the hostel...5 times more expensive than the regular youth hostel...ups. But it worthed it, because I had time to see the center the evening and the morning before continuing my trip.
Gniezno, Poland lelaulau... They assure that they'll finish cleaning/organizing the second grave. We give kiss's and get the invitration to come by anytime for tea and pastries. Dad and I go back to the car where it suddenly dawns me, I never took a picture of her and her son. Hmm.. After contemplation, I decide to run back and snap a pick of them. No really, when will I see them again. They were both pleased as punch that I double backed to take a picture of them.
Lipno, Poland kasia-wawI contemplated calling Asia thinking she maybe in town for All Saints Day but I decide against it. Dad and I are having a cementary-krieg today and we really don't have the time. We get to Torun and ask information about a Bar Mleczna. I also notice they are selling the elusive Filutek T-shirt. I've been trying to track down a Filutek shirt ...
Torun, Poland kasia-wawWith Easter upon us, the travel crew from the IH Opole team decided to make the most of the weeks holiday and do a little more site seeing, albeit with one notable difference - this time we were staying within Poland. Following trips to the Czech Republic, the Balkans and Germany we decided to try and save a few zloty and instead see the north of Poland. The destination was Gdansk, the port city on the Baltic coast, but to break up the nine hour journey we decided to ...
Torun, Poland will... listed in Loney Planet, so I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO go into some random store and buy a lovely creme summer dress to go with the aforementioned shoes. Now, all I was thinking at this point was 'Wouldn't it be smashing to sit by the Thames in Oxford, wearing my wee shoes and my adorable little dress, basking in the sunlight and watching the dashing young men from the university boating past wearing those queer straw hats!' Now, obviously this mode of reasoning has a few critical flaws ...
Torun, Poland baggagewhores... we could find in Torun, then headed on to a club called 'Credence'. As we headed in, i got stopped and told i had to pay, but all the people before me didnt have to, what was the difference....................i was a man! I kicked up a small amount of fuss, and the bouncer turned to me with the funniest Aussie accent and said "Sorry Mate", then after i paid my 5 Zloty, he proceeded to apologise for his poor ...
