Drove from Vienna to Sopron in Hungry to have our 20th wedding anniversary lunch of a salad roll and takeaway coffee in our warm car. Then drove through the eastern end of Slovenia into northern Croatia. First time we've been in four countries in one day.we noticed a big variation between countryside and house styles from one Country to another. Stopped at Varazdin for the night and walked that evening in the light rain around this mystical historic town. Quite romantic ...

On Wednesday we slept in until 2:30 (in all we slept 16 hours!)...jet lag strikes again. We took a look around our hotel and checked out some of the mineral pools before lounging in the lobby and soaking up some of their wifi! My sister and niece came by for an afternoon visit as we were too exhausted to venture anywhere that day. We gave my niece some presents (new boots and a raincoat) which she excitedly put on and wore around the hotel. ...

... up cobblestone streets to the Ptuj Grad (Castle), where we discovered the annual wine harvest was underway. Amazingly for us, we first toured the Castle’s impressive art display and interpretive exhibit of the town’s regionally famous Carnival celebration called Kurentovanje. This spring festival entails elaborate costumes depicting traditional characters, most importantly Kurent, who chases winter away. Everyone in the village has a role in this ...
