... racket when the hundreds of them travel in packs at Carnival. Kurentovanje is considered one of the world’s most unique Carnival celebrations and one I’d like to take in sometime if I’m in Europe around that time of year, perhaps before or after that European ski trip I’ve had on my mind for many years. So maybe I’ll be back in Ptuj someday!

We jumped on the bikes around 11am and followed the Weistraßeweg (wine bike trail) from Kitzeck through and around the vineyards. We stopped in a little town called Gamlitz for lunch. We had a roll and tasted their local specialty pastry (see photo). We kept going, not realising for 15km that we had gone the wrong way and were now back on the same loop! ...

... As we returned to the campground, we passed a strange set of what could only be described a "spectator stands" on the side of the lake. After hanging out for a few minutes, we realized that these were, in fact, "stands" for rowing races. ... and sunny, it was a bit of a trek, but well worth the effort.
After I got back to Bled, I went for a walk around the lake in the gathering dusk. It was another pretty walk, with changing views of the island and castle.
That night, in our rather lovely hotel, Kayla and I slept with the window open to let in the fresh, peaceful country air - no noisy traffic here!
