Obviously a remnant of the Communist times. This hotel is set amongst the splendour of the Plitvice National Park. The hotel lacks WiFi and the shower is inconveniently placed in a bath tub approximately 12 inches off the ground.

The rooms at Pltivice Hotel were clean and reception was very polite. We found staff to be very regimented which was disappointing - but we were there to see the park - so not too concerned. However, the location of the Hotel from the bus stop was only a 5 minute walk and again maybe 5 minutes to the Park entry gates. Fabulous location and worked very well for us as we were backpacking.

Wake up early for my 8:30 train to Zagreb, Croatia. Have a brief breakfast at the hotel before checking out and making the 15 minute walk to the train station. I had bought the ticket online a month or so in advance, so no issues buying a ticket or anything like that. Train arrives, headed toward Belgrade, and hop on with everyone else, finding my …

... So yah. It was just incredible. Everywhere there is water flowing. Pictures! I have pictures this time, so you can sort of see.

I was under somewhat limited time constraints and ended up running like crazy up and down the stairs and around the lakes. WIth my pack on. Which was crazy, but good exercise? Or something. In any case I MADE IT! I got to the bus stop at 2:28 PM, and then the bus didn't come ...

... left over pizza from the night before. Pizza? For breakfast? What a brilliant idea. Especially when it is 5am and you are sleep deprived.

After 2 hours of waiting we boarded and headed out on the plane where Rush excitedly tried to get me to see the islands forgetting that I was in the middle seat and could see the wing. And the sky. Not, islands. He then proceeded to push my head down to see the islands, accomplishing me looking at the sky and Rusher looking like ...

... road, and that was the main
route. While on the motorway there were signs for bears & wolves, though we
didn’t see any. I drove for 140 miles on the motorway, it’s the first time in
days I haven’t felt intimidated by the crazy drivers. Very, very windy up on
the top but again, fantastic views, not a bit like motorways at home.

We reached Pitvice Lakes (Unesco World Heritage Site) just before 1pm. It looked busy ...

From Split we travel led to Plitvice Lakes and stayed in a lodge for the night. We felt like we were in Austria, the trees, the style of buildings and the chill in the air all combined to make us feel we weren't in Croatia.
We had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the lodge and the next day we went to the National Park.

It was amazing, there is water ...
