Obviously a remnant of the Communist times. This hotel is set amongst the splendour of the Plitvice National Park. The hotel lacks WiFi and the shower is inconveniently placed in a bath tub approximately 12 inches off the ground.

The rooms at Pltivice Hotel were clean and reception was very polite. We found staff to be very regimented which was disappointing - but we were there to see the park - so not too concerned. However, the location of the Hotel from the bus stop was only a 5 minute walk and again maybe 5 minutes to the Park entry gates. Fabulous location and worked very well for us as we were backpacking.

... we started and it was about 5pm when we got back to the B&B for a shower. We'd hiked about 6 hours and 8km, which doesn't sound like much but going up and down those mountains definitely takes it out of you.

The lakes are in the mountains on the border of Bosnia so there isn't much there aside from the national park. Because of this we had dinner at the B&B, which was a home cooked dinner from one of the family members. We ...

We rose with a purpose and a plan to divide and conquer early this day. After getting ready for the day and packing our things Anne and I headed south on foot to rent our car for the driving portion of our journey. Meanwhile, Tanya and Heather walked north the the parking lot where we had heard that you can hire men to carry luggage across town. We needed this service as cars aren't typically allowed in the peninsula of Rovinj making it hard for us to load the car. ...

Awaking to another glorious sunny day (35 degrees, sorry to those of you in the southern hemisphere) as much as I would have liked to spend more time exploring the Bled area and Slovenia in general I was also excited to be heading into Croatia.

It was once again a scenic drive through the Slovenian countryside and into Croatia. After a quick stop to equip ourselves with the local currency we were off to the charmingly sophisticated ...

We then walked back along the boardwalks and side of the lake to a ferry, got lunch at the ferry and then got the ferry back to near the start point which was in the middle of our trail. We walked more through beautiful calm lakes and little waterfalls ...

... me when I say that except for one or two trucks on the road I was passed by vehicles doing over 100 MPH. Ok, about Plitvice. Let me say it is one of the most astonishing natural parks I have seen. For sure we have a great number of magnificent natural wonders in the USA, but what made this park unique is that all of its infrastucture, pathways, boats and park trams were interwoven into ...
