Obviously a remnant of the Communist times. This hotel is set amongst the splendour of the Plitvice National Park. The hotel lacks WiFi and the shower is inconveniently placed in a bath tub approximately 12 inches off the ground.

The rooms at Pltivice Hotel were clean and reception was very polite. We found staff to be very regimented which was disappointing - but we were there to see the park - so not too concerned. However, the location of the Hotel from the bus stop was only a 5 minute walk and again maybe 5 minutes to the Park entry gates. Fabulous location and worked very well for us as we were backpacking.

Wake up early for my 8:30 train to Zagreb, Croatia. Have a brief breakfast at the hotel before checking out and making the 15 minute walk to the train station. I had bought the ticket online a month or so in advance, so no issues buying a ticket or anything like that. Train arrives, headed toward Belgrade, and hop on with everyone else, finding my …

... streams or waterfalls. In that way, park rangers claim that the park is constantly changing.

In 1991, the first shot of Croatia’s war with Yugoslavia took its first casualty in the park, when a park ranger was killed by Yugoslavian Serbs. The Serbs maintained control of the park for four years and evacuated local Croats to the coast.

... ourselves up for further exploration. Galovac was not one of the larger lakes but was very pretty with the path also gaining some elevation the far side to provide great views. At the top point of the lake we came to one of our favourite parts of the park. This section had a creek running from the small lake called Malo into Galovac lake. The engineers who had built the track had put steps actually heading straight up the creek with it flowing fast ...

    Croatia here we come...

Today we crossed the border into Croatia, and are interested to see what it's like after chatting to some fellow travelers. We headed straight to some waterfalls in a national park, via the scenic route the GPS took us! I am glad it took us that way because we got to see a side of Croatia that most tourists don't get to see. So many unfinished houses, and derelict buildings, quite ...
