Obviously a remnant of the Communist times. This hotel is set amongst the splendour of the Plitvice National Park. The hotel lacks WiFi and the shower is inconveniently placed in a bath tub approximately 12 inches off the ground.

The rooms at Pltivice Hotel were clean and reception was very polite. We found staff to be very regimented which was disappointing - but we were there to see the park - so not too concerned. However, the location of the Hotel from the bus stop was only a 5 minute walk and again maybe 5 minutes to the Park entry gates. Fabulous location and worked very well for us as we were backpacking.

This afternoon was spent hiking up and around and over the beautiful lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice National Park. The park was founded in 1949, an UNESCO World Heritage site, and is the oldest National Park in Croatia. Ha, Croatia has nothing on the U.S. Am I right? The waterfalls were a nice site, but all of the hiking trails reminded me so much of home. Michigan could easily compete with it's beauty. Which I think was a little disappointing, not gonna lie. I didn't ...

Driving inland towards Plitvice Lakes national park, through hidden valleys and mediterranean hills filled with vegetation varying from olive orchids, vineyards and evergreen forests. Plitvice national Park is the largest and oldest in Croatia, and also the most visited which was obvious on arrival. It consists of 16 lakes separated in clusters, with loads of waterfalls all around them. Paying an entrance fee that allows you into the ...

          ... before
having to have our passports checked all over again at the Bulgarian border!
Luckily they didn’t require us to take our luggage out.

As a result of this long wait, we got to the capital of
Bulgaria, Sofia, a lot later than expected. This meant we barely had time to
freshen up after checking in at our hotel before we had to be back on the bus
for a short driving tour followed by an abridged walking tour. I felt really
          sorry for the tour ...

For the most part, the terrain consisted of the leafy floor you would find in most forests, but we also walked along footbridges, across some of the lakes and ...
