Hola from Madrid!

Hello family and friends! My first day of travel had quite an interesting beginning. After spending literally weeks researching luggage for my two international trips this year, double checking all of the new baggage requirements for travel, I finally made my decision on Monday. Selecting a 25" roller bag with the new spinner wheels-a real beauty! I was delighted that I'd be able to manage all of my stuff in one bag that I could simply guide through the street and not have to drag all over th...

Fam Has Arrived

Hola! Abby & Mom arrived today! Alter my classes today I caught the 4pm train to Madrid & arrived 2 ˝ hours later. The train was really nice & there was even a movie. I sat in the wrong seat once & had to move but other then that, it was smooth sailing. Mom & Abby met me in the train station & it was soooo good to see them. We took my stuff back to our cute hotel & then headed out to walk around a bit of Madrid. Our hotel is right across from the Prado & we are really close to most of the sig...

Soo... this chapter of TDK adventures comences the way any good adventure should... with prostitutes. We went out on Friday night to see Pirates of the Carribean (ok... before you start hating listen to what a good friend i am jerks....). We started the night at the plaza mayor where the whole group ended up meeting. The plaza is nice but the food was ****** and expensive and my friend got a bacterial infection from the paella. On a cheerier note, she was at least able to play with her food a...

... service is fairly ******.

- The metros are really, really clean here (both in the station and in the train). There aren't even rats.

- It's actually really, really safe here for as big as this city is.

- Tax is included just about everywhere.

- The trash people have to work at night. I have seen them out at 1 in the morning and later even.

- These pants are HUGE here. I am not sure what they are ...

Sevilla day 2 then back to Madrid

... had a glass of peach and grape juice. Then we all got ready to go out. We hit up the ATM, and Rebeca got some caffeine from Starbucks.

We first walked around the cathedral. While there, we noticed some official procession going into the cathedral. There were people in military uniforms with guns and musical instruments marching into the cathedral, it was pretty cool. People then rushed in after them. We figured that the place ...

Barcelona Arrival

... in my large suitcase and my wallet in the front pocket of my sweatshirt under my buttoned up coat so there wasn't anything for pickpockets to get at. I will have to work on a long term solution to this problem however as I will have to live day to day life under this threat. Bummer huh? On the way, I happened upon a group performing traditional Catalunian dancing and sat in the sun for a half an hour to watch. Then took two metros then I carried my 100 plus pounds of ...

Madrid, part 2

... far, the best I'd done was a tie. I must practice some. Dinner was alright, they served olivye, which was funny. I think most people went out tonight, but by the time we finished dinner, it was already late and the clubs so expensive we didn't think it was worth it. I was a bit upset when they told us the Royal Palace was cancelled. We really wanted to go, and i we knew it was closed, we would have gone today. Oh well, nothing we can do. We get a ...

Madrid

When we arrived in Madrid, I had no idea what to expect. When we got there though, I almost felt at home. Despite obvious language differences, I don't think I've been to a City that has a closer 'vibe' to that of Melbourne. It's lively and exciting, but also fairly laid back - very cool indeed! Another similarity Madrid shares with Melbourne, is that it didn't seem to be a place to go for ...

... no signposts anywhere made it fun to find. When I did unstick the pack from my hunched over back two guys came into the dorm. Mick and Simon are two Germans that I´m here in Marbella with now. They´re on a uni break for a week and were going to hire a car to see Andalucia. We munched down on chompanarillos and they offered to take me along. On the second to last nite in Malaga the 3 of us hit the town for a few cervesas, but soon came across something which ...

Day 1 I left my film class half an hour early, nervous. I had a map with me, but it really wasn't clear as to where I needed to go, exactly. And, of course, it wasn't much of a help for actually using the bus because it didn't include detailed instructions as to how one gets on the bus in Spain. Sure, get in and sit down. But what about paying? And what if I get on the wrong one? How many stops are there till the one I need? Despite my ...
