... me thinks!

A ferry crossing, serveral apportions of blame, a beer and some phone calls later, we try to do the pleasant tourist thing Colonia. Which despite my grumpyness is a nice place. In fact it is very pretty and we had a lovely day in a beuatiful colonial town with some food Heidi could eat and enjoy - no more pasta! Dad, lovely sea food. I had mussels and calamaria in a tomatoe sauce - yummy!

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay rwnieldGetting from BA to Colonia is just as simple as getting to Paris to London and even quicker. Just up at the port, check in, and an hour later you´re in Uruguay. The port in BA is in Microcentro and Colonia is so small that the port there is only a few minutes walk from the old town.

UNESCO has declared the entire town a World Heritage Site but for me it´s a little unfortunate that the port isn´t in the old town because I was mildly disappointed when I first got there ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay bt82... at the harbur front retire to the pousada for the requisite afternoon nap to ready ourselves for another night of debauchery. Justine entertains us with stories of how she would like a threesome with a straight couple but where she doesn't have to do anything with the female party and she's hoping tonight could be the night. Oh Gawd - give me strength. I take one more stroll down to the waterfront and sadly leave the ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay codownsean... br>
The old centre is quite small and you can walk around in 1 hour or so. We did this the first afternoon we arrived and in the evening we went to one of the many Parilla's to eat more Uruguay steak! The whole town was full of banners of presidential candidates as the general election in Uruguay is this Saturday. Every 5 minutes a car with huge speakers would pass, blurting a jingle for one of the many hundreds of candidates.

The next day Annemieke persuaded me to go ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay ivoandannemiekeWell we´ve abandoned the big city after wasting a day nursing a...uh.. temporary illness. Cause: A large 3 dollar bottle of "whiskey", also known as brown death booze made from corn and cereal.[Sorry Moms] We did manage to make it out at night to enjoy a 5 dollar all you can eat barbeque buffet. Pretty effing delicious. And pretty much had everyfood you could imagine. Procuitto, bloodsausage ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay vino_voyageurs... eyes on us. (N.B - You won´t think the sunburn was so bad when you see pics of us in the following days but it was, I was wearing a LOT of make-up [Lorraine that is]). Now before the lectures on sun protection start rolling in (I mean you mum) we were being very sun-savvy and reapplying lotion everytime we came out of the water. Don´t know what happened, we´d been in strong sun for nearly two weeks in Buenos Aires and already had colour, must´ve been the freaky brown ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay briandlorraine... grilled Tuna and Mike had the ribs. The following morning we went for a walk to the old part of the town full of cobblestone streets and buildings dating back to the 1600´s. From where our hostel was to the old part of the town was only about a 7 min walk but when we arrived there it was like we had walked into old Portugal, it felt like a totally different ...
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay kate22... a spot in the bar/kitchen and read some more of the Aerolineas magazine. The free internet access is a bonus - after checking my email, I noticed an article on the Yahoo Argentina website, "Miss Cola 2009". Basically, that means "Miss Ass 2009", which is an annual competition held every year in the Argentinean beach resort of Mar del Plata. I briefly regretted not going to Mar del Plata instead of Punta del Este, but then ...
Puerto Iguazu, Litoral, Argentina pwong... then stopped in the Fine Arts Museum - tiny, but excellent. Ha and I were stealthily taking photos of the paintings, thinking that it wasn't allowed, only to be handed free catalogs of the works on our way out! We decided to leave La Plata, though it was worthy of spending a few more hours here, because both Ben and I were still feeling the effects of last night's Peruvian meal. Wade also had some issues, but I seemed to have the ...
La Plata, Argentina pwong... so we chose a place on one of the 'plazas' (squares) near the lighthouse.

Our meal was very good, we both enjoyed our pastas and the half bottle of Uruguayan Cab that we had with it.

After that we walked across ...
