My Colonia, if only for a hour

... surrounding ruins (Ruinas Del Convento de San fransciso y Faro).
5. Buying a painting from a local artist and wondering around the streets of Colonia looking for the spot in the painting.
6. Spending time at the 1866 Wharf (Muelle 1866) and lapping up some of that beautiful sun!

So in summary - we had a really nice time. I would recommend Colonia as a side trip from Buenos Aires, its a complete change of air and pace....till we meet again Colonia!

Charming Colonia

... were content to sleep, chat or cruise the downstairs Duty Free Shops. I seemed to be the only one interested in being on deck and got some great pictures of Colonia from the sea as we approached Uruguay. From this view you can see how the town is situated on a peninsula and has its small scale dominated by an old-fashioned lighthouse.

We stayed at an adorable hotel down by the water called the Posada de la Flor. It was surrounded by flowers and had a lovely ...

Cobblestones and Coffee- Buenvenidos a Uruguay

... back to the hostel around 11, we found all of the restaurants chock full of
diners. Apparently the Uruguayans eat really late too. I don´t know
how they do this and still get up to work in the morning (although they
do take siestas).

We both really liked this place, and if you
ever find yourself in Buenos Aires, you should definitely hop over, at
a minimum for a day trip.

A beautiful day in Colonia

... and then as soon as their heads hit the pillows, one was snoring. He sounded like a dying cow being slaughtered and then shagged back to life again (not that I actually know what that sounds like, but if I had to guess, then this is it!). This is where the iPod became of use again, although I had to have it on full volume to drown out the aforementioned animal antics! I couldn't actually send out a few f@rts in retaliation as I had the imminent fear of following through!! Oh, woe is me!

... needed to turn around on the main drag. Ginny who was driving turned down a one way street. At the moment we turned we realized the mistake we made but the street sign marking the one way was on the wrong side of the street. We slowed down as traffic approached us then a guy on a motorcycle was waving making a commotion telling us to turn around duh. We turn around then the motorcyclist who claims to be a cop ...

Into a new country, Uruguay!

... sunny day. In the evening we headed out and had some local specialty, a Chivito, yet another variation of steak in this part of the world, with egg, ham and various salds. Accompanied of course with a litre of local beer (they do not sell small bottles :( ).

... It definitely would be great to return to Sicily, and hit up Malta and maybe also Tunisia, afterward. Hmmm ... perhaps next winter, if Australia or Egypt fall through ... I finished up the magazine, and went for another stroll. Though there isn't much to see, and not many decent areas to walk around town, it was still nice. Sometimes it's great just to wander around a place where you don't know anybody, and nobody knows you - it's ...

Wet dream

... stopped in the Fine Arts Museum - tiny, but excellent. Ha and I were stealthily taking photos of the paintings, thinking that it wasn't allowed, only to be handed free catalogs of the works on our way out! We decided to leave La Plata, though it was worthy of spending a few more hours here, because both Ben and I were still feeling the effects of last night's Peruvian meal. Wade also had some issues, but I seemed to have the ...

Time to relax .....

... deal to do, but it really grew on us. There weren´t any amazing sights, but it´s very tranquil and a great place to relax. It has old Portugese colonial architecture but not of the grand style, just normal houses. The buildings look a bit run down now but the town has a lovely feel to it. The absolute highlight for Foy was the horse-riding. We went on a 3 hour ride, just us and two guides, from just outside the town - as ...

We managed to avoid the temptation of another ice cream on the way home; Katie has just gone back to sleep while I finish off today's blog entry.
