Rio to Iguassu

... we made the trip the day before to buy our tickets to Iguassu. We knew the route, but didnt figure ojn the Friday afternoon traffic. We were really sweating it as we sat in traffic. We arrived at 2:34 and made or way to the platform. Luckily the bus was waiting for us. (Otherwise, we probably would have lost our tickets... 90 bucks USD EACH!) The bus ride wasnt bad considering it was 23 hours. (Although, it did not include any food, only coffee and ...

Bye Bye Brazil!

... night cooked by ´mama´, who also did all our washing for us :) Tuesday morning we headed off to the Itaipu Dam at 7.15am. We watched a short film in which the Dam was linked to all things good in Brazil and it was even credited with helping to prevent sexual tourism and people trafficking. I never knew that a modern engineering was quite so advanced but there you have it! After the film we drove to the dam which was ...

... like creature) decided it really wanted to get into Ness's bag (it failed)! The view of the falls was spectacular as you have a panoramic view of all the separate falls, allowing you to really appreciate how huge they are. We walked up to the viewing platform for Garganta del Diablo and we could see the water crashing down over the falls. Finally we went to a bird park where there were several different ...

Brazil once again

Meri n Justin had a midday flight back to BA, whilst I booked myself an arvo bus ride back to BA arriving on saturday...... So I said Hasta Luego to them, and decided to check out the city of Foz de Iguazu in BRazil, which is significantly bigger than Puerto Iguazu in Argentina (where we were staying). Not much to say other than it was even hotter than the day before (36 degrees, and about 99.9% humidity) and its just another city ...

Amazing Iguacu Falls

... first as could only see a few wispy falls over the huge cliff faces which look like they are normally completely covered in water. As we walked further round though we saw a lot more water and were impressed! The falls are so huge and are not in a straight line so give the wrong impression at first. Took loads of photos from the bottom cat walks and then walked further round to see the most impressive sides near the bus ...

Mission to Misiones

Woke up extremely early and headed on a cab to Aeroparque Jorge Newberry, the local/domestic airport in Buenos Aires. Our flight took off at around 9.45 in the morning and we headed over to Puerto Iguazu for our program's trip to the falls. It was extremely disorienting flying there, as the climates were totally different. It only took an hour and forty minutes to get there, but the temperature and weather style changed totally. We left BsAs ...

... us fresh treats filled with dulce de leche!!! We sat at a restaurant, had trouble getting a menu, or getting across what we wanted...the guy didnt speak a lick of spanish, and portugese is hard to grasp. We waited over an hour for hte food (maybe why no one else was in there) and just before it came, Matt got up to chat with a cab driver about maybe taking us to Rio today (his spanish is by far the best in the group)...as he was finishing up the ...

A Different Perspective on Iguazu Falls

... River. A rest, a swim in the pool, a great dinner, and uploading our journal filled in the rest of the day. It is a bit of a hike to get up here to Iguazu Falls, but we are so glad that we came. The Iguazu Falls from both Brazil and Argentina are perhaps the most beautiful natural sight that we will ever see in our lifetime. Sadly, in the morning, we will head out to the airport for a few days in Buenos Aires to finish off our Argentinean experience.

Aerial View of the Iguaçu Falls

Because Argentina has banned helicopter flights in the Iguazu Falls National Park on its side, it is only feasible to fly over the Falls on the Brazilian side. Okay, the helicopter may disturb the wildlife (the reason that Argentine government bans it) and I felt a little bit guilty on participating in such activity. At the end, I still decided to spend that $65 for the 10-minute flight over the Igua ...
