... bread rolls. And a spritz. (Made with prosseco (sparkling wine) Apple juice and water). Bellissimo! What a magical spot to have lunch, out on the balcony. Lake and mountain views. Beautiful! After lunch I walk through the hotel's gardens. Beautiful again! Back to Varenna for a spot of last minute shopping (bought some prints of the area) and a huge gelato. Back to my room to pack up. Scraps for dinner ...

I couldn't taste the truffle but it was so nice to have some decent meat. Very nice restaurant ...

are they going to think”
The next morning was actually much better, the torrent had mainly evaporated and things improved during the day.
We met Marco, ...

1764. My Last Lombardian Province

... experience that country, all on foot. But that will be for another time. Right now I'm just going to walk around Varese for a little bit... and then go on to other things. Varese is quite different from the other Lombardy capitals. It has more of a Mussolini era feel, with big squarish building and long colonnades of equally square pillars. Actually, I don't mind it. Just nice to see something different, and be reminded of the short period of time when modern Italy was ...
