Catacombs & Colosseums
... it is left in ruins. But you can still walk through the old building's walls and see where the ancient cold, warm, and hot baths were. We had lunch and decided to have another go at catching the bus to find the bike rental shop along the Appian way . As we were going along Erin spotted the store by pure chance, but we were long past it by the time the bus stopped. So decided to get off up the road and catch a bus back in the opposite direction, rather than go to the end of the line ...
Day 2 - Rome
... further down the train from us and had a lucky escape from pick pockets. Ted and his passport with him in his pocket. Luckily whoever took it realized that a South African passport was of no use and they dropped it. Somebody saw it and gave it back (there are good people out there). Luckily they chose the pocket with the passports and not the one with the wallet. Imagine losing your wallet, credit cards and cash on your first ...
Day 21 - First full day in Rome...Vatican and more
... the crowds were enormous...again, we can't imagine high season in Europe! We had to walk a ways to get in, but there was plenty to look at. There are still medieval walls outside the Vatican with turrets and all that...also a huge church, not St. Peter's, but much older. The Tiber River is nearby, in fact we had to cross it from the ancient side of the city to reach the Vatican. When the Vatican was first created, it was outside of Rome...the city eventually grew out to the Vatican! ...
No wifi connection, late updates in Rome
... had salmon pasta, and I a spicy tomato pasta. We knew we had to hurry some as they close in between 3 and 4, before opening back up at 6. These Europeans have crazy store hours. The rest of the day was spent watching American tv shows in Italian, napping in an AC room, drawing and catching up on blogs. Right now I'm enjoying not walking, just relaxing, as this is a vacation, and I'm about to indulge and read my aunt lindy book. Ahh sweet ...
The Eternal City - and it's ruins
... coz it was included - the dads did this last time - and guess what - it has not changed - but after so many centuries I expect 6 years to make very little difference.
When we got back from old Rome we went to have the tyre fixed, we had a temporary repair done yesterday and a new tyre ordered, it was there and quickly fitted - but alas no credit card facilites (direct debit only - not unusual in Europe), so the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Idea Hotel Roma San Pietro Rome
All in all ok
We stayed 1 week at the Pisana Palace. The hotel caters mainly for groups-didn't really bother us as we got a good price-Euro 50,00 double B/B. The rooms are very small, even by european standards. It is within ease of access to Rome by bus( bus stop across the street) and is only Euro 0,77.Breakfast was excellent.Staff at reception: some were not very helpful when we need to change money or for information about the city. On departure when we handed in our key nobody said goodbye or thanks for staying. All in all, the hotel was ok but not exciting.
