After a much longer bus ride than advertised, we made it to the port. Only the port of Trieste is clearly not used to harboring cruise ships. We love that here in Rovinj, although the population is 15,000, swelling to double this in the summer, you can basically find everything one would need to survive. There are shoe stores, 2 grocery stores, a green market, electronics store, shoe repair, jewelry, 3 churches, ...

It was now time to head to Rovinj so we walked back to the hotel, collected our bags and car and made the 35 kilometer drive to Rovinj. Driving up to the town of Rovinj, it's obvious that it is a small/old town. No cars are allowed into the old town center so we parked and walked the rest of the way. ... quiet streets, Roman ruins and temples, Baroque period homes, Venetian mask shops and loads of cute kittens romping in the streets. Compared to southern Croatia, we felt very much a home here. This is more our kinda traveling, with nooks and crannies to explore, the calm and clear sea to quiet our souls and open spaces to play in. We can tell already that Istria is full of the natural wonders and surprises we enjoy.
