Lots to report today. We had one of our best rides yet along the coast from Peschici to Manttinata through Gargano Park. Lots of rolling hills, little traffic and beautiful vistas. Between Manttinata and Manfredonia, our final destination for the day, there only two routes. One is a 2 km tunnel, closed to bikes, and the other is a mountainous road with many switchbacks. Unfortunately the local police had closed the road for a car race. We used ...

... pavement. The bright side was we had to backtrack past the Cheese Wonderland I reported on yesterday, necessitating another stop. I have included a picture of the Cheese Maiden serving us. Much of our 77 kilometer ride today was through a national park along the ocean. Our terminus was the town of Peschici, which is an old town situated on a point overlooking the sea. Our room has a beautiful view. Dinner ...

Spent the day catching up on some much deserved rest. Got some sun and finished reading my book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," by Maya Angelou. I only wish I had WIFI so I could communicate, it's been 3 days now. The ship offers WIFI but it costs $.75 per minute and an additional $4 to activate an account with them. I just keep hoping that we get access at the next port. I thought I should tell you a little about our ship. It is named the ...

... we got back on the bus and drove through the snow capped Apennines on our way to Vieste. Vieste is a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast that is a favorite holiday retreat of the Italians and Germans but little known to most Americans. We stayed in the old town in a cliff side hotel which was unexpectedly modern and beautiful. There are many narrow streets of about 8 feet wide and many other dwellings and ...

La Masseria Il Frantoio - Sabato a Lunedi, Marzo 17th 2014.

We can't believe how we have struck gold yet again. We struggled to find it but on the left, as we travelled north from Ostunia to Fasano, was the sign for La Masseria Il Frantoio. After a kilometre off the main road, we arrived at electric gates, announced our arrival through an adjacent internal phone and drove in. We were escorted to an ancient olive grove, provided with electricity and shown the ...
