A sociable day

In the evening, we went into the farmhouse for a drink with Pierre-Marie and Brigitte. They are very kind and patient with our Pidgin-French! We were given delicious desserts too -a tarte au poire and the local tarte a l'ancienne.

Route de la paille
Today we decided to get up on time and go on a nice cycle ride through the local valleys and get some bread from Carrefour. That was what we meant to do, but instead it turned into a sightseeing tour to see the local straw sculptures (see pictures), a nostalgia tour to see an old gite we went to, and a let down seeing as Carrefour was closed over lunch. Cycle ride up the valley
... on food on the way back, but the boys were very anxious to be back, as they had made an arrangement to visit their new friend 'Albi', whose parents own a house at the other end of Aix-en-Issart. They are English and live in Dulwich,but visit their French home often. Albi and his sister visit Pierre-Marie to help with the milking and he ended up playing table-tennis with the boys last time he came.
