... headed into L’Hospitalet Andorra, with a view to taking the toll tunnel through the mountains. Fortunately it was closed and we were treated to a magnificent ride over the pass on the N20 and into Spain. Swung through the enclave of Llivia and then continued onto one of our favourite roads from 2005, the N152. Back on the train to Paris and our ...

Caught the train to Lourdes. It is six hours from Paris but we had been looking forward to seeing the grotto where Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary. The basilica is magnificent. Lourdes is picture postcard. It is tranquil and the river runs through the town. There is a fort high up on ...

... poor quality and winding. However it traversed some amazing scenery which we had a little more time to enjoy. We had been riding a lot of the day with Nuna, a guy from Lisbon in Portugal who was one of the ‘Triple Crown’ riders - the group of nine who were doing all the Haute Route events in succession. He hadn’t had a true rest day in three weeks! He was strong and helped us on the flats and cheered us up on the climbs. How could we complain when we ...
