    ... actually you're right. Despite a mass of visiting walking tourists, nothing in Saint-Larry Soulan was open. Apparently this was their time to close prior to the winter rush. The best meal we could rustle up was a pizza. Who eats pizza in France? Our Irish B&B friends, who stayed here for a week, ended up popping over to Spain for a hearty meal. (I enjoyed writing that last sentence)

    Speaking of Spain, time to head there ourselves.

    ... in a hotel, as there are no Alburgues open. Eat at the late hour of 8:30, the norm in Spain & then rest the night away! Did not plan well today, as I didn't have enough food for fuel and the villages were mostly quiet for the season. Many of these villages will become bustling during the winter ski season. They are taking a siesta during the fall! Grateful for my new pilgrim ...

    Our hosts took took us to their favourite restaurant for lunch. Chris being Dutch, we went dutch and had a good meal of mushroom and slow egg, veal with fresh pasta, and cocoa iced parfait with a very good 2011 Domaine Lapeyre madiran.     ... 50 litres of water. We will only stay the one night. But it gave us the opportunity to go to the 'Donjon des Aigles' - the dungeon of Eagles. Wonderful specimens of owls, raptors and some delightful parrots. A wonderful display, with the sky full of mixed birds at the same time. And it went on for an hour. A great experience. And the views from the top of the ruined castle were stunning.

    ... where people light all sizes of candle and place them. Further down the stands men are cleaning the old remnants of past candles out of the stands in readiness to be used again. People in wheelchairs are everywhere being wheeled towards the grotto by volunteers.
