The last two days were spent hiking through the country that makes up the Great War Museum, which includes the mountains and paths where most of the fighting took place in WW1. We started out yesterday hiking from the Albergo Falzarego, to the Refugio Averau. It was raining and cold and we started out with lots of clothes and rain gear. As we climbed higher up the paths, it began to brighten. However, when we got to the Refugio Averau, it started to rain again and ...

This hike goes around three famous towers and is very popular. We drove up to the Rifugio Auronzo and started out walking around the three towers. All around, in every direction, the views were spectacular. In one particular direction it looked just like Mordor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy! The limestone and dolomite rock walls are eroded in amazing patterns with sheer vertical walls and jagged crests along the skyline. The colouring is pinkish where the rock is dolomitic. There ...

... a biker meeting point. It's incredible! And the roads are ideal - twisty hairpin bends with a spectacular view at each turn. We went for a ride in the afternoon - riding west from Corvara over the Passo Gardena which connects Corvara in the Val Badia with Sëlva in the Val Gardena on the west side. It has an elevation of 2,136 m above sea level. We then went south over Passo Sella between the provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol in Italy. It ...

... and Friulian. It is most unusual looking. There is a heavy Tyrol influence in this part of Italy, in terms of architecture and farm buildings. Everyone has huge barns filled with chopped firewood, hay, skins, room for livestock and I suspect their sausages are hanging from the ceiling. There is so much preparation for the long winter months and it appears that they are as self- sufficient as ...

... ok although I was in the top bunk and spent some time worrying about what I would do if I got a leg cramp,in the middle of the night!
Tuesday morning dawned fair and we set off early for the Col Bechei De Sora. We got part way up, then a group of us remained below (including me) while a few carried on to the summit (which involved some "scrambling", hence my remaining behind). We all met up again down at a nearby lake and then continued with our walk. We ...
