... unreal, sun is fierce and not a breath of wind. Afternoons on the balcony are the order of the day, listening to all the birds shouting at each other and arguing over bread dropped on the floor at the cafe by the lake.
Only downside is having to wait until 7 till the restaurants open. Not easy for two gluttons like us. Had a rubbish meal first night too which is enough to put us in a bad mood for about a week. Italy almost done. ...

We had been a bit stressed that day and just needed the companionship of someone who knew the area. She took such great care of us, and introduced us to some more of her friends the next day. After that we met up at the train station with Michael and Steve, some friends from the States who had been visiting Europe. We explored Milan with them for a bit, ...

... of the most tricky and disheartening legs.
Leaving Como also meant leaving Italy, and we passed through a border post situated in the middle of a suburban high street; a bit like having a border control halfway down Stirchley High Street. Geographically, Italy and Switzerland seem intertwined in this neck of the mountains.
Perhaps it was the heat, or the confusion of language in Switzerland. We were unable to find a motorway pass, and I left behind our petrol cap at ...

... east of Locarno to Minusio. This portion of the ride was almost exclusively along the lakefront on a dedicated biking/hiking path. Found lots of hikers and bikers on this portion of the route. Upon returning to Locarno, I easily climbed the hill to our apartment with “standard assistance.” Overall, I biked about 36 km over the 3 hr period of the ride but that included several stops. I really enjoyed the experience- the bike and the scenery.
