A lie-in was followed by lunch at Taverna, a restaurant only round the corner from my flat. I suggested this place because I know it does good chicken kavarma (chicken and vegetable stew cooked and served in a clay pot) and tarator and the décor is atmospheric.

Tally writing... Time to move on from Sofia and we caught another overnight train to the city of varna this time. This Bulgarian train was around 11 hours very similar to the serbian train. The carriage cabin itself was only half full this time and cleaner and overall a bit better...until we set off that was lol. Such a small problem but made the journey so irritating! The heater was on full blast to the point where the whole cabin almost stripped off to our undies ...

... location being a bit too big and the Plovdiv one being a bit too small. This one is perfectly-sized, with solid wooden bunks and airy rooms that make for a cool night's sleep. A huge garden with comfy areas for lounging around, a large dining room, a common room stuffed full of plush pillows, super clean bathrooms, friendly and helpful staff, it's got all the makings of a perfect place for a backpacker to sleep for a few nights - I think I'm going to like it ...
