Museum Marathon

... a King's Palace and now serves as one of the world's most famous art museums. Having done the Orsay in the morning, we focused on the Egyptian, Roman, and Renaissance galleries. One could spend many days here.

It was hard to take these pictures as they allowed no flash, and no use of tripod. I did my best and may have listed incorrectly some of the paintings and their respective painters.

Life as a Tourist

... my American patriotism into high gear.

Before exploring through the inside of the grand palace, I started my own tour with the gardens out back, where it seemed as if every single 10x10 meter square of land was personally managed by its own gardener. The lawns, trees, statues, fountains, and flowers all appeared perfect, like out of a cartoon, with the estate stretching out as far as the eyes could see. On the left, there lay fountains and green lawns cut into ornate and ...

Day 2 - 5 kms and 400 stairs

... Notre Dame. That was our first stop because I wanted to be there before the lines for the towers got too long. We arrived shortly before 10 AM and I found the entry to the towers. I was the 3rd person in line. My mother didn't want to go up because of the 400 stairs so she was going to see the inside of the church and the surrounding area. The weather that morning was pretty miserable. Cold, cloudy, windy, and threatening to rain. I was very happy to be 3rd in ...

Paris!

... it and through the gardens. Then we went to the Ordsay a different museum with more Van Gogh and Picasso. That night JF said he would take us to the Eiffel Tower for a dinner picnic. We bought wines and bread and cheese and we ate dinner in a park next to the Effiel Tower! It was amazing and beautiful. Recently the EU elected the French President as their own president so the Effiel Tower wasnt yellow, but blue with gold stars and on the hour for 10 minutes it ...

A slice of Delhi on the tongue

... that I can't really afford to replace. I asked around at 14 hotels in the area and the cheapest room I could find was almost $170 after you convert from Euros. I will keep looking and let you know where I end up. If you have ever been homeless, broke and hungry in a strange foreign land, I feel your pain. I really do. And to think I get to do this all over again on the 19th when I get back to Paris from Tunisia. I am ...

Reflections on the street where he lived

... really didn't take much imagination)...and as we walked around the neighborhood --my imagination piqued again when we came across a locksmith with antique locks in his window as well as a photo of the establishment in days gone by--possibly from the 1920s or earlier-- perhaps when that little boy walked down the street. It was easy to imagine him passing the locksmith standing on his stoop and saying 'bonjour'as he passed. We passed lots of bakeries--that little boy ...

The City of Lights

... we go grab a great meal and a bottle of wine. Our first French meal. Speaking of French, they kind of suck. Even though they know exactly what you are trying to say, they like to pretend they don't. Awesome. Tres bien. Chris is hilarious with his french: oui, trois, merci. Sweet. Despite this, I like the French nonetheless, and am looking forward to our stay in Paris.

Frocking around

Arrive in Paris with a tear in my eye. Myself adorned in black and white as a homage to visiting Chanel HQ. Not rich enough to walk in, but passionate enough about haute couture to paw outside the doors, wiping my drool with the sleeve of my targét shirt. Came out of drunken clothes haze to find my way to Marais, where I am staying. Such a lively and interesting area, soaking it all up...

Oh Paris how I love thee....

Bonjour! I am playing a bit of catch up with my travelogue since I did not have internet access this weekend. Paris was wonderful! I did just as I planned, I ate croissants for breakfast, at every patisserie you can get a croissant or a "raisin" (croissant dough that looks like a flat cinnamon roll with cinnamon and raisins swirled in...absolutely to die for!) Thursday night we walked down to the Eiffel Tower and caught it right at sunset ...
