This year we have pretty much stuck to our intended clockwise route around the Iberian peninsula but the area I had least planned was northern Spain, with the exception of the Picos de Europa mountain range - a 'must see', we had both agreed. This was partly due to not knowing how long we would be able to devote to exploring the area and also the weather, which can be changeable. Indeed, as we drove northwards the cloud cover was ...

... of nights then moved further north to Ria de Arosa, A Pobra do Caramiņal.

The area has a fantastic coastline and some beautiful unspoilt towns and beaches. This is nothing like the Costa Del Sol or Costa Blanca.

... fortunate to have enjoyed significant encounters with many of them. It is an absolute luxury to spend one's day just walking. Despite the heat or wind, or even rain (which we managed to avoid), the opportunity to be in nature and enjoy the beauty of the world around us is a gift. When we walked the Camino Frances we met many people and developed a wonderful friendship with a dozen or more pilgrims. As I have said ...

Day 28 Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis 14.5 miles

Yesterday we were looking at the guide books for the walk today and Elise read one writer who said, "The walk from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis is one of the 'flattest' on the entire Camino Portuguese." I thought about that last night with great relief, I may have even dreamed about it. Although the walk would not be terribly long, the fact that it would be flat would be so nice. We began the walk out ...
