Jalan Mahmud Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia, 15720, 60-9-7485000
We broke the journey back to Sepilok at Lahad Datu, where the friendly Perdana Hotel showed great pleasure in seeing us again, and continued the next day to Sepilok Jungle Resort. We planned to spend the afternoon and evening in Sandakan, hoping to find somewhere nice to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. We explored the tourist sights around Sandakan, the main one being the War Memorial, which marked the starting point of the Death Marches which ended up in Kundasang. There is a looped ...

Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia carsonsontour2... I am saying this but it's too hot for me to sit out in!! I venture into the sea and take up the position I have done for the last week and submerge myself in the water...no still too hot!! It's not even midday and I can't even lie in the sea because the water is too hot, as is the sand!! I get out, sit on my towel, wave goodbye to Jack and Dominic and then when Carolyn departs for her Sugar Wreck dive I take refuge in the internet house!!<br><br ...

Perhentian, Kelantan, Malaysia gledipinnar... and pillows have dirty covers, there are no sheets, and the mosquito net on top of the bed is riddled with holes that have been filled with toilet paper. Even though there are lights and a fan in the room, none of them work during the day so we have to keep the door open if we want to see anything. Nonetheless, its nice to have a room. There aren't nearly enough rooms on this island to ...
Perhentian Island, Kelantan, Malaysia dfleege... it takes a couple of days. We dutifully went to the immigration office on Friday only to learn that they are open from Monday to Thursday. Therefore, we were forced to waste a day in this shithole and since they like Allah beer was too overpriced for my taste. We woke up the next day and shared a taxi with some freak from Germany and a bird from Britain to the pier for our overpriced boat ride to the beautiful Perehentian islands. The water is the first thing you ...
Perhentians, Malaysia mericanomad... Malay fare where the tourist can grab a bite whilst waiting for their ride.. as well as a few convenience stores to stockup on supplies to the islands and travel offices to book your rooms.. Breakfast was at the cafe just next to the pier, came up a little short on the mee goreng and funny-tasting green apple juice, but never short on the company of flies.. hee.. Still, business was ...
Kuala Besut, Malaysia gin_gy... a smaller bay we encountered loads of tropical fish of all shapes, sizes and colours who were happy to swim around us as we looked on in awe. The final stop was at a deserted stretch of white sand appropriately called Romantic Beach. While our driver copped off around a rock with a girl, somehow thinking we wouldn't notice, we swam off in search of more sea-life. Sar was rewarded with another encounter with a turtle which she followed out ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia sar-and-sag... about 20 minutes through town to the Malaysian border town (Rantua Panjang). One quick form, no fee to cross, a quick x-ray of our luggage, move the clock up an hour (12:30) and we were officially in Malaysia. According to a sign and to a police officer, the ATM was about 150 meters away. Well after walking for about 30 minutes we finally found an ATM. However the ATM was the bank of Islam and somehow knew we were not Muslims because it did not take our card. We ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia slipperycoconut... place was very chill and we could walk to 2 other beaches to snorkel. The coral was not good compared to Sipadan and Sulawesi Utara but that was not suprising. We did see a whole group of big napoleon wrasse or humpheaded maori wrasse (~20) that we'd never seen before. The number of parrot fish (both species and diversity was very high too.) A very relaxing place to stay for a few days.
