Bye Bye Brugge... Hello London!
... br> It was really nice to catch up with Jamie, as we did become fast friends in Paris and he came along to Amsterdam as well. It's funny because to me that seemed like it was ages ago, but it was just exactly one month since we had first met. Jamie made me a really nice home cooked meal (I have been spoiled rotten with lovely home cooked meals since I left the ship) and we caught up over a bottle of wine.
So happy and grateful for all the friends I have in my life old and new x

... nice to be back in open sea. I know its a huge bay but thats the point. It was big enough not to have to worry about the ships. We did get crossed up in a lock. The big boats ahead stopped their motors as we entered so we continued on. Turns out they were just getting lines on and fired them up just as Rae got the stern line on so the bow shot out and it was all i could do to hold the rope while jockying red to bring him back in ...
Finaly in holland. And back on the briny too.
Merlebeke was a great little stop really. i chatted to the barman who is a real foody. They do international food days regularly. They did africa, sweeden, italy etc. I showed him a haggis recipe and as he loves eating offal he thought a scottish day would go down well. it was snowing heavily when I got up. It didnt settle on the ground long though as it was still about 2c. ...
Wet and extremely windy once underway.
... It is an enchanting small historic town with strange shops i.e. designer clothing, kitchen accessory shops, 2nd hand book shop and some restaurants, 2 museums but no general store. There is nowhere for locals to buy provisions, except in Middelburg.

... a Moat type canal surrounding it but this is unlike any we have seen! for it is a jagged shape which made it more defensible in some ways, but at the time of building it was essential for how do you defend an important city in a flat landscape, over the years Middelburg has had good times and bad times but it has come through all to present itself as a great place to spend some time.
