... ever before, our luggage was also there so we headed off to pick up our Alamo rental car. Even that was a cinch. Not even 15 minutes and we had our jeep loaded and headed off to Cape Coral. But alas not everything was easy. We needed over an hour to reach Alligator Alley. The I-75 North was one huge traffic jam which caused us to travel an extra hour. We finally arrived in Cape Coral at 7:30 pm local time. We were so exhausted we headed straight for our beds. No travel pics ...

After some online reconnaissance we ventured into the city today for a look around. We drove to a local train station and had no trouble buying day passes from a vending machine for €6 each. In spite of the propitious signs, our international train tickets cannot open the gates at the platform. To serve us better, the railways have removed all personnel and closed the platform with gates. The Decline And Fall of The Dutch Railways... (my intellectual friends will think of Edward Gibbon)

... has now been rebuilt, but St Nikolai has been left as it was after the fire. It is quite a creepy place. Just a few walls remain that are covered in scorch marks and holes. Pretty incredible. The crypt of the church is now a museum which had footage and photos of Hamburg during and after Operation Gomorrah. The entire city was just ash, so crazy. After St Nikolai we walked to the old canals of Hamburg, along some bridges across the canals and to the old factory area. The ...
