Mt Buller skiing

... bad snow conditions, not a huge area to play in but enough to spend 2 days messing around, lots of fun terrain parks and jumps. Mens downhill was the best run! Bit slushy moguls by the end of day 2 and freezing cold wind but fun times had! Friday saw us heading back down to Melbourne to St kilda again for a weekend of Kite surfing!!

Had the oppertunity to scoot off to Mt Buller for a days snowboarding with the lads from Cork. Was just the one day and by right we shouldn't have gone at all cause we were going to New Zealand the next day and we would be wreaked cause of gettin up at 5am the nex day. Was worth it though cause the snow was great and Shaun had got better so he could come to all the ...

Skiing in the Buff

... but one hurt more than all the week's total put together...); sore spots: knees, dodgy shoulder, all over really... comments: soooooooo tired after yesterday! But couldn't pass up the opportunity to repeatedly demonstrate how I can travel a long way down in snow plough position without actually stopping at all... Watching 8-year olds Luke and Anika fly around with ease like snow fairies ...

Mansfield-Mount Buller

Our weekend up in Mansfield/Mount Buller was a success. It's a great place and our new friend Fiona was a lovely hostess. Mansfield is 280 km north east of Melbourne (three hours by bus) and is a great little country town. It's full of ski bums, grape pickers, horse trainers, tobacco farmers and cowboys. It has a nice feel to it. Fiona has a little dog called Pepe, he is a chiuauhua mixed with a Jack Russell. He is ...

Easter Weekend 2007

... Arrived in the aftenoon, went out for a small hike at sunset, the views were spectatcular. Evening entertainment included a large meal and bored & card games. Following day went for a hike in the morning followed by a late luch prior to drive back. Following day Jules and I went to see Red Hot Chill Peppers in Melbourne, they were very good, although there warm up act was terrible.

Cairns and up to Daintree

... We did a slow boat trip on the estaurine river and saw one croc and some cool plants, kingfishers and a tree snake. This stay has been quite different from the rest of our trip because of the large group we are in, but the wildlife is incredible. We are next heading to stay at Noah's beach, camping out near cape tribulation, and still in Daintree. We will update more soon and hopefeully some good pics!

where do i even begin?

... D.C. it is its own district. The city was created because Melbourne and Sydney were arguing about which of them should be the capital so they decided to put it right inbetween the two! We were told by Canberrans that Australians make it a national past time to bash the poor city. Lucky for us, I had taken an urban studies class where the prof lived and worked in Canberra so he had made sure to include it in many lectures. Ever since I had a goal to visit the ...

Not such an easy climb

... fires. Here, the smoke was very evident, and we saw an entire camp iof firefighters at their base camp. The smoke in the air made for a beautiful sunset. We drove for another couple of hours toget to Can River, where we stopped for the night. Sleeping in the Rewkowski Mobile was very nice. Much better than the little red car we had in New Zealand. We rose bright and early and made our way to Thredbo, the resort town at the base of Mt Kosciuszko ...

Mountain 'Climbing'

This morning we left Sarah and Mike's place to scale Australia's tallest peak, Mt Kosciuszko. In reality it is a very leasurly walk, but if the tallest mountain in the country is named after a famous Pole, we have to be there. It is currently the heart of summer here in Australia and the temperature is hovering in the mid to high ...
