    Around 90% of Hannover were destroyed during WW2 and when I saw some of
    the old houses that remained untouched it really broke my heart as I
    could only imagine how pretty this city must have once been.

    I hope you will enjoy the (rebuilt) remains as much as I did.

    ... but the rest of us spent Monday visiting the science museum in Wolsburg - Phaeno - and what a place it was. Not a huge museum, but packed with things for kids and adults alike to enjoy, from revolving rooms, to electric shocks and huge air-cannons to giant smoke rings.     ... of the succession to the Throne of george Ludwig and also, the last year that there will be a British military presence in Germany. So following WW2, 70 years of our forces being based in Germany will come to an end. It is quite strange and an odd quirk of history that it is also the centenary of the first great European exercise in collective slaughter. One can only hope that by 2114, we have learnt something.
