... we survived the Super Storm Dusseldorf of 2015 and walked around East Berlin all day, not taking the subway once. We made it to the wall first, and were surprised to find (perhaps naively) that the Berlin Wall was actually a series of layers of walls, not just one wall in the manner of the Great Wall of China. We were approaching some of the historical marker plaques to read about the wall when we were accosted by a couple of young women close to our age, asking ...

... gruelling. Our fast track train to Berlin was efficient and fast, travelling at over 250kmph. Looking out the window was pretty sickening at times, with trees and houses whizzing past. We both had our first lunch in the train, taking turns to visit the restaurant carriage. Our meals were tasty and the prices were pretty good! ... leave again. The rules of time and space meant that our mission to Potsdam had failed.
Mind you, there is a bit of a historical parallel in that the Potsdam Conference was also a bit of a failure, with no agreement on any of the fundamental issues. No Peace Treaty was signed, and the rancorous atmosphere meant that the Cold War began at Potsdam. It just shows that sometimes, things don't always go according to plan.
By now, I was heartily fed up ...

Bilgoraj to Berlin

This morning we said farewell to Andrzej and his family. They had been so very generous. Anna had gifted us 2 of her etchings. They are very much to our liking and will look great on the wall at home. Paul also appeared with a book about Polish nature which was very kind of him. We really enjoyed out time in Bilgoraj. Andrzej made sure we got on the correct bus for Krakow. 44 pln each. The bus was a lot older and creakier than ...
