We were headed for Canada the next day and as I mentioned earlier, the drive back towards the coast was spectacular! The flowing streams and the sheer snow covered mountains were simply incredible... a real feast for the eyes and a sight you can never get sick of looking at...
HAPPY NEW YEAR - WELCOME 2014!!
We left the beautiful cabin in Pine Forest on New Years day and headed home via the quirky little Bavarian themed town - Leavenworth. To escape the FREEZING cold we found refuge in a Bavarian café for lunch to enjoy warm cider, schnitzel, sausage and sauerkraut. Delicious!
A quick stop to purchase a Pork Knuckle and some chocolate coated pretzels and then back on the road - Seattle bound.
... It's a town that has been remodelled to resemble a Bavarian town. I think it's charming but Germans think it's kitsch. The flowers are stunning especially the hanging baskets and the shops are full of bakeries, cheese/ meat/ wine tasting and more than a fair sprinkling of gift shops. Our hotel the Obertal Inn has three storeys. Of course we're on the top floor and of course there's no lift. ...
... simple. Well, first my appendix burst, survived the first two days after surgery and in and out of consciousness and climbing up the slippery slope out of sepsis. I had to poop in order to leave. Zach stayed in the hospital as we both studied for the NREMT and walked lap after lap. An enema on day 5 was my ticket out and on the morning of day 6, I was good to go. ... Bank had to change their logo on the signage to conform to the local ordinances. Tons of bars, shops, restaurants, hotels, and wine tasting rooms make it a mecca for tourists and visitors who love the German cooking and beers. We did our share of sampling the authentic German cuisine and Washington wines.
The towering peaks that surround the town make you feel just like you are in the Alps if only for the day!
