... way to increase tourism to the area and they came up with a theme town. The alpine forests beyond the town resemble the mountains in Bavaria. Their idea worked and now over 1 million people a year fill the streets for shopping, eating, and festivals. The town now has an ordinance that everything has to follow this theme. The McDonalds and Subway had to change the appearance of the logos to match the theme.

Stayed at EconoLodge - very basic - fairly clean but allowed pets and was cheap - $55.00 with only $10 for George. ... restaurant on top of the hotel which is along the Columbia River. The river-walk also makes for a pleasant jog.
Down the road on US2 is an interesting town named Leavenworth which is a Bavarian village, sadly I was not here during Oktoberfest but it looked like a great place to spend a day checking out shops and German fare.
