Getting the hell out of dodge

... br>We led on the beach across from the hotel in the blazing sunlight, stoically damaging our skin for an hour in the hope of darkening it, but the terrific heat and tepid sea water in the bay meant a quick escape back to our almost frosty hotel room (wonder what that puddle on the floor is Kerry? Oh, could it be that we're rinsing the A/C?), a cold Modelo and an hour of Andy Murray in the US open. Now we've got a holiday!!!

When the sun was well down and some of the ...

... laundry, one of the few places we catch TV. Had fun trying to keep up with an old Mexican western in Spanish.

Then some pasta salad and siesta. And later, chicken flautas and margaritas - and yeah, games! Pretty funny as the drinks were huge and with one each, we had a hard time remembering who played what. Easy on the tequila, Pablo.

Before bed, we walked to payphone and called Beth – miss that baby girl.

Found 'our casita'

... would have loved to sell us a place, or rent us something more substantial, he was most helpful is finding us a wonderful casita for $300 a month! And he is a great resource when we have questions. He agreed to be our emergency contact here and Beth has his email. So we enjoyed spending the night in our little house and will begin shopping tomorrow for kitchen/bathroom items and groceries. Feeling pretty perfect...

... stuttering, ram-rod sound as engine braking begins to slow the rig. They can be pretty loud and obnoxious, particularly in any residential area. But here's the good thing! The ferries don't operate in the evenings and when they do start up in the morning, you're usually up by then and ready to start your day any way. So, it really wasn't that big of a deal. Trying to sleep in could be another story. The resort is very nicely laid out with ...

... on and re-enters the breathing loop. That's it in a nutshell, and it can be all yours for the low, low price of about $10K! Gonna have to wait on that one. And then of course, Pam and I would both need one. J And hopefully soon, Victoria! We're excited about hopefully getting her certified this summer. She'll be 14 in August and is looking forward to finally joining us. Anyway, dinner was excellent yet again, but of course everyone turned in ...

... the warm, sandy beach at sunset, it was eventually time for dinner and yet more cervezas. Hmmm. I/we seem to have a little theme going here already. J We all wished Pam a very happy birthday and do wish she could have joined us! Most of us had little difficulty getting to sleep our first night, since most were up since about 4:30am for our early morning flight. Vacation tired is always a good kind of tired though! On ...

... wasn’t enough space. Maybe they were looking to crash the party for beer?!

Finally, some wind (even though gusty .. about 17 knots) and we started to sail down I. Partida. We headed to Caleta Partida for the night, anchoring again in 15 ft (3m) of sandy bottom, close to the beach for our last night on the islands. Extremely calm conditions all night and a beautiful evening with a ...

We sit and enjoy basic food while chatting to Jack, a retired American who is sailing his yacht solo down to Ecuador, and Alex, an ex-IT professional who gave up the life and money to move to Mexico and install solar panels one day a week and drink beer for the other six. A little more sitting, thinking and reading/writing while ...

... money for the last few weeks. I think there are a few reasons for that, firstly we really felt ripped off in Guatemala and we are still getting over it, we paid double what the locals paid for everything and it is not the same way in Mexico, but we still don't trust everyone fully! Also we are near the end and we have very little reserve left in the budget, so whereas in the past if something cost a bit more than we were expecting we ...
