Macocha Caves

... maybe 20 minutes by motorboat, winding in and out of flooded caverns and grottos. The cave system stretches for 38km under the hills, though we didn't travel nearly that far. Eventually we saw light at the end of the tunnel and arrived back almost where we had started, some hour or more previously.

There remained only a hairy cable car ascent back up the gorge to where we had left the car.

The Goat's Demise

... built in the Dutch style with a rotating top so the sails can always face the wind.

The old guy serving was friendly and gave me a photostat of information about the windmill, which I was encouraged to read out loud to the children. This I duly did and they sat through it uncomplainingly. On the back was a story marked "Humour" which I can only assume is a true story or some local legend. It had clearly been translated by someone not all that good at English, and I ...

You Are Almost as Friendly as the Czech People

... in her hand was a icebox filled with more meat. Being Ukrainian I am used to the consumption of ungodly amounts of meat, but this was ridiculous. Milosh the Colonel grabbed a big hunk of bochok (thick slabs of a bacon-like meat) and sliced us all a piece and forced us to eat more. Over yet another beer, I told Milosh and his wife that they were the only friendly Czech people we had met on our sojourn through the country ...

Back Home in Brno

... and i mean SMALL. I had no problems with the guitar on the flight over to Spain, nor any flight I have brought it on. I get to the front of the line, and the woman tells me I am going to pay to check the guitar. For those of you unaware, Ryanair is a LOW COST airline. That is, your ticket includes nothing but a seat, and a cramped one at that. It doesn't include any checked luggage, drinks/snacks, etc. I am surprised you don't have to pay for the toilets on the plane ...

We arrived in Brno....

Well, after a LONG day, 3 planes, a 3 hour bus ride, and a 10 dollar cab, we made it! Our dorms are, well, interesting... As you can see, the beds are really just couches. But because they give us sheets, they can call them beds. The shower is very strange, and the sink is right in there with you. But, it for 180 a month, it isn't bad at all. Brno itself is ...

So far so good

... It was like a warm chocolate pudding, but really really good. Got a desert that should have came out of a 5 star restaurant. Then me and my roommate Lillie went shopping a little and realized none of the stores stay open passed 4pm, but the mall was open. We ate at a cute diner where I got fried mushrooms, crab meat and broccoli. It was fantastic, and so was the dark Starborro beer. After that we went to a wine tasting place called Vina Vitka. The best ...

I'll enter a title after the entry.

... unforseeable in normal life. I would tell the story but it's really complicated. It's about a single mother who needs to go to a mental health clinic for awhile and has two young boys who have nowhere to go so her neighbor takes them in instead of going to America with her boyfriend. And there's more to it obviously. Today I am leaving to go to Ostrava to spend the weekend at a festival with Ross and Katka at a festival in Hlucin (Katka's ...

Waiting, writing, uploading

... with my suite mate Simon from England and my roommate Enrique from Spain. The British have some seriously hilarious expressions, and they think it's us who talk funny. Haha. Well tomorrow we are going to some Moravian caves nearby, I saw them before. On Tuesday and Thursday nights they show Czech movies. The one on Tuesday was this classic fairytale movie from 1984 called The Devil's Brother-In-Law. It's good, I saw it w/ Veronika. The one we watched last ...

Brno Down The House

Interestingly enough, this place has nothing to do with either former boxer and mental case pantomime appearing star Frank, nor the former Radion 1 DJ Brookes. We had a brief meander whilst here for a few hours around this big town and visited one of the more gruesome places we've been on our travels. The Cappucin Monastery was sadly lacking hot beverages on offer ...
