... there, so you can follow some of them and see the place from above, although it requires good physical condition and no fear of heights. Other tracks, like a yellow trail to Priečne sedlo (2,352 metres above sea level), are considered to be the most challenging and difficult in the Tatras, and a trail to Priečne sedlo is a one way route, so once you've reached the metal buckles and ladders there is ...

... surprised to see nothing over 3 euros on numerous menus.  We decided to stop for dinner at a place next to our accommodation that was recommended in our guidebook.  It is an organic restaurant.  In a region known for its meat and potatoes, it seemed odd to see such a place, but it was fabulous.  We both had Goulash with dumplings.  For the dumplings we expected something more like perogies or gnocchi, but instead they were huge!  They looked like slices of bread, but were ...

Kosice

Well, we left Budapest and entered Slovakia relativly quickly, getting a couple of short rides out of the town, then two sets of HGVs took us all the way to the Slovakian town of Kosice, close to the Hungarian boarder. Once we disembarked we realised, or rather Paz did, that while sleeping in the back of the truck he had left his small bag containing his phone, driving licence and an assortment of CD given to us/him while on the jounrney. Good start eh? Still ...

SNOWY HIKE, SLOVAKIA

... fallen trees. A few years ago, wind which had been stored between the mountains for decades suddenly escaped and swooped outside in one strong gust that knocked over half the forest. It's too bad Jana's mom hadn't given those trees some money for a room. My hike led around the side of one mountain, then climbed, past fresh water spilling onto the stone-paved trail, up and into a valley. It was April 28th, and I hiked on deep snow. The mountain valley ...

Lionel Richie, Boyz II Men, a little Beethoven thrown in. We were planning to head to the capital of Bratislava after another day or two here, but now we are entertaining thoughts of going to the Ukraine, since we are so close. We would have to get a visa, which is expensive ($75) but we are considering doing it anyway. .

... which accumulated in a scramble up the 2,400 metre Vychodna Vysoka where the air became thin and wispy and an eagle lazily glided above my head. Glacial lakes glistened in the small valleys and crumbling rocks from spring avalanches regularly spewed over the path turning the hike into a scramble. On my descent to Stary Smokovec, the main town of the Tatras with the highest concentration of hotels in the country, I was stopped by two Slovak hikers, a man and ...
