... The Older church is no longer used but well maintained. It has exposed original mosaic flooring in places and frescos cove parts of the walls,. Some of these are in fairly good condition. There is a large wooden cross on one wall with somewhere below it where the locals can light a candle. It turns out that this is the Baptistry of the Newer church. ... actually very faded and one of the disciples has no facial features visible. In 1652 the monks wanted a quicker access to the kitchen so they actually cut a door through the wall cutting off parts of the painting including Jesus' feet! There are of course no photos allowed inside so I will post a stock photo for you to reference. Da Vinci paid a great deal of attention to detail and small things like shadows of even the nails holding up the tapestry in the painting ...
