Just back from shopping in Mangalore. We were trying to find a chemist and ended up buying over the counter in the street. People here so much more friendly than in Mumbai. Tuk tuks everywhere and coconut and banana palms. The guide on the shuttle bus sang to us and then put on his mothers sari to show - never a dull ...

Mangalore is very busy dirty port with many oil tankers and cargo ships sharing the dock with us. There is little to do here so we joined one of the ships tours which wasn't great. After an hours drive along hilly winding roads we saw our first Jain Temple, Chandranatha Basti, built in the 15th century, quite different from anything we've seen so far. Akhil calls me and a have a small space at the foot of the third bed up, just beyond where he's sleeping. At 2.00am three indian women who must be ...

... my mind had calmed down so. Was a bit nervous about what would happen when we departed (ok, so I couldn't have calmed down that much if I was already nervous before I even left!) and were off in India-dealing with noise, dirt, and crowds. Oh, and having to make decisions! Raluca and I had decided to start our adventure nearby, with a night spent in Mangalore and a day trip to Udupi. The ride to Mangalore was beautiful! We rode through a national park. So much green ...

Hope you're all getting excited about our imminent return! Perhaps we'll have an extended stay in Mumbai; it seems that Kingfisher flights aren't experiencing the level of success enjoyed by Kingfisher beer.

After a sleepy bus ride from Cochin, we visited to the grand city of Mysore. I seem to fall asleep within half an hour of sitting on any bus nowadays, providing I have a seat. This has its uses, but also legitimises the monopoly of ...
