An unexpected twist

... me stunned, struggling and plummeting through the rest of the currents – toothless and in shock.

OH ****. Time to dig deep girl. This is no longer a game. This is real. This is very, very real.

I finally managed to climb onto the jagged rocks along side the river where the rescue raft could retrieved me and the kayaking team brought me to the hospital by flagging a local truck from the roadside. My guardian angel, who is embodied by my beloved friend Chris, was by my ...

A Day in Kathmandu

... as they’d passed away a few hours ago.

Apparently this is the place to be cremated and all along the river, ‘river of the dead’ ceremonies were taking place. Although we’d never experienced this it felt quite obtrusive and we left them to it, it also left us quite subdued and quiet for a few hours whilst we thought about what we’d seen, not every day you see burning bodies and dead ...

An ode to Kathmandu

Returning to Kathmandu is starting to feel a bit like returning home. I wrote this in my journal while standing on a street corner during one of Kathmandu's nightly power outages on my first night back in the city. I was surprised by how passionate I was feeling about the city and how happy I was to be there.

I like Kathmandu.
Its just insanity and movement.
And then the power goes out.
People light candles.
And then its shadows ...

Poorly sick, birthdays, buses and Diwali

... you to all the birthday wishes), so couldn't celebrate with beer...however, we did celebrate with our first meal in 4 days...rosemary chicken (first time we've had meat in 5 weeks)! Mmmmm, yummy.

We spent our last few days in Pokhara rowing a boat on the lake, walking around, being rather envious of the trekkers heading into the clear blue skied mountains and generally being bored!! We had enough of Pokhara, and felt it ...

Bloody run in with the law on the long road 2Nepal

... so nice for him to give me some money back. So I’ve just crashed into a policemen, injuring him and his bike, he knows my papers are non existence and to smooth over the matter I have to pay him Five pounds - absolutely brilliant. It nearly makes the whole experience worth it.

I finally make it across the border into Nepal on the day of my visa expiration. I am so relieved, but before I rest I have to make it to Kathmandu 300kms away. My bike is running smooth and ...

Kathman Two

This is Kathman Two: the part when Kelley joins me. And you'll notice that the photos are a lot nicer; that's because Kelley took them with her fancy camera.

Kelley and I might have overdone it on her first day. It started out very mellow, having a late lunch with my friend Neil (from the slideshows). We then walked and walked and walked to Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple. My nonsense guidebook describes it as a 'pleasant walk ...
