I apologise for the lapse in entries. I'll let Italo Calvino make excuses for me this time.

'Perhaps I am afraid of losing Venice, if I speak of it,
or perhaps, in speaking of other cities
I have already lost it, little by little.'

On the way to our final Italian stay-over, we swung by that famed fair place they call Verona. In summation, we saw Juliet's balcony, rubbed her Shakespearean boobs, scored some free Red Bull and headed back ...

The clouds hadn't lifted this morning; in fact we now had steady rain as we drove to Venice. We arrived at 10.30 and boarded a launch that took us around to St Marks Square. We were all huddled inside, wet umbrellas abounded, trying to catch a glimpse of Venice through wet and foggy windows- not a promising start! ... even a minute past the meeting time and without taking a head count, our guide hurried us to the bus. A few passengers got left behind and were angry about it but luckily they knew where the bus was parked and had been able to catch up. I don't think I'd have been so lucky finding the bus.We next went to the Archaeological Museum. The guide led us through showing us many of the highlights. You could spend days inside. ...

    ... a main course!

Arriving in Venice was exciting to cross the big lagoon and enter a canal world of old buildings and charm. Our hotel is quite close to the train station and top of Venice and we found it by luck quite quickly as street names are very hard to find. We did the usual check in and headed out for a quick explore. Our concierge was able to give us a discount on a gondola ride so we booked that for tonight as it looked as though ...
