OK, so we're living on an Olive Farm for a while now.
Bohemian? Yes
Practical? Only when its sunny and only when its not olive picking season.
So what season is it now? Olive picking and its raining.
Welcome to our own little corner of Glastonbury
... drive. It sounded really good on the pamphlet, but as always we were slightly deceived. They only gave us about an hour to check out the crater which was probably enough anyway but I don't like to be rushed. Myself and a girl from London went up together. You could see Naples from the top and it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. The crater is large but not masive and it is smoking around some of the edges. There was also a slight scent of sulfur in the air also. They say that ...
Salerno, Campania, Italy tonkin... Back at Como we had a wander around the streets and to Stu's delight and my horror all the shops seem to shut at 2 and re open about 7pm...great (window) shopping to be had. Stopped for a hot chocolate to drown my sorrows.
PS we do all turn into our parents, as now like my Mum, I never go on a day trip without a pac-a-mac, map and pack lunch (for Lauren)!!!!
... hostel, saying "have some respect, we have a flight at 6:00am". Granted the doors did have glass windows so the hall light would have been a little bright, but it was only 11:00 in a youth hostel...who brings a family there anyway??
The showers turned out to be interesting too: No curtains, and no privacy. We were showing off our parts to the world... :)
That was the end of that day.
... distance involved but the mountain ranges were stunning and held great promise for Naples, an area thats described as the most beautiful in the world, so we did not expect what was actually around. I guess as with all major tourist spots they have a chance of becoming tacky, but this was tacky mixed with poverty, I've honestly been to third world countries that are cleaner and felt safer, there was rubbish dumped in every available place on the roads, the shops were barred and ...
Salerno, Campania, Italy piholland... around the town a bit and we actually ended up walking into some sort of street festival where groups of people from around Europe were dancing and singing. It was awesome to stumble upon it. Yet another thing that only a few of us got to see while on our study abroad. We were able to see about 4 groups dance and sing for about 30 minutes and then we took a stroll back to the hotel to hang out at the beach for a bit before our cooking lesson at 5 pm. It ...
Paestum, Campania, Italy twn5017An alternative for Pompei. Tragedy is still there. All city was covered with 20 metres high lava.Look down about 2000 years back in time, when the Vesuvius erupted. Compared with Pompei Herculeneum is smaller but maybe thats the reason why it is so impressive. Plinius ...
Napoli, Italy leijen_ova... city of our ancestors. So, we're on the final stretch of our journey back to Rome having made our last stop along the way - in Naples. In all likelihood, we will head back to the hotel for some much needed rest and relaxation. As we reflect back on this special day - one neither of us will ever forget - the excitement also begins to set in about the places we will visit tomorrow: the Coliseum, Fountain of Trevi, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. Buona notte!
Salerno, Italy jmontano... She called something back as she headed down the hallway but it got lost between the slamming door and the shock in my ears at having heard myself agree to attend a dinner where I knew no one and no language. It might have been, "What a great attitude, Emily!" But it was more likely, "This is going to be awfully interesting." I had almost decided not to go when she came back, but I sucked it up and pulled on a pair of jeans and a clean (travelers clean is a little more lenient ...
Salerno, Italy emrofa... worked out just swell. I was peering out the window at Pisa but couldn't see the Leaning Tower. Firenza passed me by through half a snooza, as I have been there before. Roma was a distant blur as we scooted its outskirts. By late afternoon we arrived at Naples for the last train switch - and the 34 stops of the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. I remember the Circumvesuviana well. Last time I travelled it 4 years ago, someone threw up on my backpack, two stops into the journey ...
