Time to get to work

But, I've promised myself that I'll update this blog before we leave Naples...

Moral: Don't Let Ash Fall on You!

Ola Kala: simply, OK (in Greek). No time for lots of flap.....we're on the go. The Vatican Museums await us (and we can hardly wait to do more walking!). Enjoy the pictures and we'll fill you in on the adventure next time I make the time to sit and gab.

We're still having a grand time!!!!!

Il y a meme une rue ou l'on ne retrouve que des commerces d'articles de noel. tout pour se refaire une creche ou redecorer l'arbre a chaque année!

Almafi Coast

... umbrella and raincoat got soaked through to our underwear! Next day it rained hard too but did not mind a lazy day with no sightseeing. The city of Naples has a few nice areas but is a really dirty city and one day of sightseeing was plenty. Seeing Naples and Mt. Vesuvius from a distance is the best way to see them but south of Naples and the Almafi coast is not to be missed.

Ruby Tuesday !

... a few minutes to catch the purple bus, which traveled to the South West along the Bay of Naples to the residential area of Posillipo. On the return, the Castel del'Ovo and Santa Lucia appeared to be quite visible. Getting off the bus in front of the Stazione Marittima, on via Cristoforo Colombo (street), we crossed the street and walked through some of the street markets. After some casual ...

Living the island life!

After Pompei, I took the train back up to Naples, then caught the ferry over the island of Ischia, the largest of the three islands just west of the Bay of Naples. I won't write much here as it just took me 2 hours to upload the photos (slow internet connection again) and they tell most of the story. The best part about Ischia is that I stayed in a hostel with a balcony over looking the sea! Who ever heard of that? One day I hiked up to the ...

Pompeii : A Two Thousand Year Journey

... men, lions, bears and even a rounded water vase. Only the extremely wealthy and luxurious houses in Pompeii had indoor plumbing so most people would have to recur to these public fountains which sometimes overflowed and ran downhill on the streets. I lingered behind a tour guide who was explaining that Pompeii was a prestigious business center and resort area for the rich and famous of Rome. Wealthy families and high political officials ...

Capri and the Blue Grotto

... boats bobbing around, waiting for their turn. As you arrive, rowboats come alonside. They take four people at a time - you have to slot yourselves into the boat because you have to duck to get into the grotto entrance. Before you go in, you get rowed over to a floating dais to pay 8.10 euro each for the privilege! Some tourist trap, this one! It was pretty bumpy and sometimes the waves covered the entrance altogether. There is a chain to ...
