    ... the setting, decor, room and furnishings were right up our Rue. Result! Full marks to Shep for booking it as were here for 3 days to explore Provence in all its glory. Showered, unpacked, relaxed, wi-fi'd up, we hit the loungers in the garden, had a swim in the lovely pool and generally pondered how great life is here when done properly and what a contrast to Marseilles.     ... history. These places give you an audio type machine to listen to explanations of rooms etc as you go around. Quite amazing the scale of things. We also did a walk over the Pont Saint-Benezet Bridge. John very interested in how they constructed it all and there was a guy restoring the footpath with stones as they were originally - talk about a long back breaking job!!     ... through beautiful countryside and saw the lavender fields. They were full of brown stumps. I said to the kids that they will have to make a promise to themselves, that they will come back one day and see the lavender fields in flower. Tess said 'why? I know what lavender looks like and I saw the photos at the shop".

    Van Gogh lived here for about 1 1/2 years and it was here that he cut off his ear.
    There was also a wonderful museum in a private mansion that had a small really
    good collection of post impressionist paintings including Van Gogh and Cezanne's
    works.
