... rental about 3:00 for a light snack after three hours of touring. We then walked the grounds and hillside forest area next to the property which provided a great view of the surrounding areas. We gathered some kindling for a fire in the fireplace of our rental. The old stone cottage is pretty cool in the evening and a fire in the living room feels great.

Tonight for dinner we had a little North Atlantic salmon with potatoes and vegetables. Quick and easy. Great first day in ...

          Day 71 - Provence Provincial

A travel blog entry by hopptwo on Nov 11, 2015

Monaco was cloudy and grey this morning when we woke. It is November after all. We checked out of the Port Palace Hotel about 10:00 and departed for Provence. The drive was about three hours and 25€ in tolls. While all part of the travel experience, the cost is a bit aggravating for those of us who are use to "freeways".

We arrived at our "gite" or rental unit in the tiny village ...

... t get a lot of chances to take city pictures but I did get one out of the stained glass window in the Pope’s Palace (pic 2). Hee hee. If you knew how giddy I feel just typing that last sentence you’d be rolling your eyes.

The hotel I’m staying in is right on the main road where Pope’s, Roman’s, and who knows else all walked at one point or another. It was a short walk from here to the Palais des Papes (Pope’s Palace). In 1348 the Queen of Naples ...

... were curtains, powerpoints, individual storage lockers, comfy beds and air conditioned rooms. It may not sound like that much but it was awesome!! After waiting at the shop for 45 minutes for takeaway chicken and rice for dinner, it was a night of getting to know a few people on my bus over a 1€ glass of wine, which strangely enough was ...

... swim. After some research, deliberation and discussion, we decided to drive to the famous Pont De Gard. The Pont de Gard is the tallest remaining example of a Roman Aqueduct and is only 6 foot shorter than the Colosseum. It is also famous because it appears on the 5 Euro note. Anyway we drove there, basically ran from the carpark and dived into the icy-cold fresh water of the Gardon River

          Bliss…pure bliss!

We swam and relaxed for an hour or so ...
