We arrived into Nice a day earlier than originally planned but our lovely Couch Surfing host was able to accommodate this. Yann and his mother live very centrally in the old part of Nice (pronounced niece). Their home used to be an old convent for nuns, had a cute original layout. We topped the kids up with a donught at the airport knowing all the food & drink services on EasyJet would be at a cost. Like much of Venice, the terminal too was filled with high end fashion stores. No Gucci or Versace souvenirs on this trip I'm affraid.

... bay the view is beautiful in all directions. We had rolls (love he french bagettues) on the stairs near the Monte Carlo race track. We were facsincated as ordered our food and had to put the money in a slot and the change spat out. The server did not touch the money at all.

Walked up to the Palace. The view of Monarco was amazing. There were guards standing to attention outside the Palace and every so often they came out and paraded up and down ...

... Some rather heavy swallowing and much nose pinching and blowing alleviated some of the pressure and allowed me to hear a little again. What a relief! There were times when I genuinely believed i had sustained serious damage, in my mind even making plans to learn sign language and wondering how I would perform many of the daily tasks required of me. A whole world without sound? How would one cope?

... Florence (thanks Ad) - even has a JG monogrammed on the front. Just what I had in mind! Walked to the bridge - very old and has tiny shops located on either side selling gold jewellery - very beautiful. Another little street with the arches of the Museum Uffizi - large marble statues of all of Florence's famous residents - Galileo, Dante, Michelangelo, Raphael, Da Vinci. Bought two small original paintings from one of the street ...
