... time being anyways.
When we got to the train station...well it was pitch black outside. So we decided to hang out at the train station for a bit till it started to get light outside. Our first mission was going to be finding a bank...we had no Swiss Franks to use at all...so we needed a bank. One it hit 7 or so we decided to start finding our way to our hostel. We stepped outside...it was beautiful! The Alps in the background, the ...
Hello everyone,
This story starts with KB and I on our first and only sleepin car experience... From Rome to Interlaken... it was interestin, fun and well we made it! There were 6 of us in the sleepin car, it was tight, but at least me got a bed, we both had the middle beds... there was an old lady on the train that was funny... when she snored she sounded like a tiger purring! I think KB enjoyed it!
We arrived in Interlaken early ...
... of a barn. I would have given anything to have set that up for her in advance (notice I said 'for her') and seen the look on her face. Something tells me that might dim her ardor for barns from then on.
We toured/'walked around Gimmelwald for the requisite 15-20 minutes, took in all its sights, and continued our descent into Interlaken, where we had dinner, took in some Cow Zen, had a nightcap and hit the hay- although not literally.
... and another day of biking around the entire city, we set off at midnight to drive on the Autobahn to Bern. So instead of spending the night on a sleeping train, we took turns driving and sleeping (thank you Alex for the wonderful neck pillow!).
We drove into Interlaken around 9, into GORGEOUS views of mountains and lakes (thanks Jess!!). Because we were pooped from almost no sleep, we spent most of the day sleeping ...
... there was silver water bowl at the owner’s feet. Could you just see us taking Daisy and Crickett into a restaurant for dinner with us?
One last observation to share (from Dad) is that today is the second time I have seen someone with UNC TarHeel clothing. The kid I saw today was from Switzerland or Germany. The TarHeels have an impressive global fan base. I haven’t seen a Duke item, that’s for sure!
My Quest for Winter Hiking.... Going winter hiking in the Swiss Alps was not as easy as it first appeared.... I was told by several locals that I could not go hiking since in their words, I would "SLIP and DIE" (hmmmm... still not sure if this was a German-to-English translation problem?). I decided to heed their warnings, since (a) I could not get my hands on any trail maps, and (b) with all the recent snow the trails were not visible... forget ...
Jungfraujoch, Switzerland hikinggirl... After this pleasure palace, we took a few more elevators to "the Sphinx". It's the highest observation deck, only accessible by elevator. Its shaped like the Sphinx so I guess that's why they named it that. Aye aye Captain Obvious!! We had to fight to get our spot in the photo areas, but we got a few good shots. We took people's cameras and snapped a few shots for them. It was really chilly up there but the sun was warming the metal grates below us. What a breathtaking ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland rachandshan... for an upgrade which means they are moving next year. Its been sunny and warm, just perfect for wandering around a city, we caught the train and bus home and started to get ready to leave tomorrow. Having found out today that we didn't pay in Germany (oops), I paid the bill and am getting organised to go. We called the Italian camp site we has enquired to, they don't take booking for caravans so we had to ring today and of course they are full, so captain safety is not happy ...
Interlaken, Switzerland rob.jenn... that was pretty scary. The guys gave us no warning though. We were all just talking and then all of a sudden they opened the door and started jumping. It was a great way to do it though because none of us had time to be too scared. I didn't take any pictures during the fall (they let you most of the time) because we were doing tricks in the air the whole time. During the free fall(which lasted 30-45 seconds), we were spinning(kinda like a frisbee)and looking at ...
