... her, statues, etc. a certain gentleness to Lourdes. It must be appallingly touristy in season—the shops sell every kind of statue and rosary and religious item. It’s a lot in winter, and most of them are closed now. But clearly people who come here are passionate and dedicated to their faith.

It was a long 5 hour drive today to get to the Pyrenees but it was worth every minute of it to round a corner and see the snow capped mountains in the distance. We arrived at our campsite at Bagneres de Bigorre just south of Tarbes in the Haut Pyrenees about 2pm and were amazed to see the elusive yellow ball (aka the sun) in the sky….yeee haaa!!
