A gold medal day in Athens

This morning we disembarked, leaving our 10-day home on the Aegean Odyssey. It was a good cruise but I am looking forward to Athens.

We leave the port of Piraeus, a district of Athens, and drive to the city center, home to the Acropolis.

The Acropolis stands majestically above the city, where we were able to roam the remnants of Pericles' extravagant architectural display. Seeing and studying these images over the years, you have no idea of ...

    Pretty Piraeus

Our first Mediterranean stop, the port of Piraeus which is the gateway to Athens and all the treasures it holds. It is a relatively short stop today and for a lot of yesterday we debated whether to get a taste of Athens, or stay in Piraeus and look around. The need for the internet is quite pressing now, this is the longest we have been away from cyberspace in years!

We get out on the top deck and take in the sight that is Piraeus and decide we are going to stay here. The sun ...

... our picture, they gave us a personal gift to each of us, as saying thank you for coming to sing for us! Once we finished our performance we then had a few students come up to us who knew English very well and told us about how it is their dream to go to America and to be a dancer, actress, or a famous singer. I told each and every one of them that no dream is to small, to big, or impossible. I then told them that ...

    Temples and Christmas lights

... version of the Parthenon, but its setting is its crowning glory. It was such a beautiful day, we sat outside in the bright sunshine, drinking good coffee, looking up at the temple and across the sea. It was even better because there weren't multitudes of pesky tourists crawling all over the site. Probably no more than about 25 people. We spent a couple of hours there then caught the bus back to Athens. We got off at Syntagma Square ...

Lennujaamas on iga paarisaja meetri tagant piletinäitamispunktid.
Lennukid on taeva Ateena kohal triibuliseks sodinud ja mäetipud paistavad all roosas udus, mis kõik kokku äraütlemata kena välja näeb.

People must show their tickets every few hundred meters in the airport.
Airplanes have drawn stripes in the sky above Athens and peaks of mountains shimmer through pink fog. Looks pretty.
