He also told us the legend of the two brothers (Romulus and Remus) and how Rome became the city it is today. The first area we entered was the spot where all the royal palaces of Rome stood. Ten we went into the actual Roman forum area. This was the point where the three of us and our new friend Caitlin broke away from the hijacked tour to toilet and ...

... me was that the 160 km desert drive between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is no longer there. There are now a lot of buildings along the way. The rest of the road is now green as trees have been planted the entire length of the highway. There is a 700 foot gradual elevation gain from the entrance to the stadium at the top. We were there in late afternoon so the light only added to the experience. As in Olympia we all entered on the Sacred Way. It is lined with the ruins of statues of such luminaries as Perseus, Danae and Hercules. Also there ...

... is the Propylaea which is in essence the entrance to the Acropolis and would have been both and impressive and intimidating entrance to walk through. Climbing the Propylaea you get a sense of just how big it really is but also how beautiful it would have been with all its marble and the ornate sculpturing. A great example of this is the temple of Athena Nike which takes pride of place above the left entrance, the statue that once resided inside has long since ...
