We headed further south to land ourselves in Anglet and Biarritz. The expectations of both these places were quite high after having lots of friends travel through here before. Arriving quite late and in need of doing some serious washing we tried to book ourselves a campsite, but everywhere was either full or ridiculously expensive (59€ for a campsite). We decided to give it a miss and eventually landed ourselves on possibly one of the only streets in Biarritz ...

... caught his name.... but this is the name of his store. David was terribly interesting to talk to. He makes all the jewelry he sells. His collection of gemstones that he has acquired overseas is pretty amazing. He did have three rings, that both Marina and I fancied. One 18ct. Rubellite tourmaline. One 4+ carat Sri Lanka ruby, wonderful deep color., surrounded by a hot of diamonds. One 23ct. peridot from China. I am not a peridot lover -- but this ...

    Dirty, dirty floor

... I found the carousel and walked along the pier taking photos of the bay. It was a really pretty place and it reminded me slightly of the bay in Ulcinj. I was feeling a bit peckish and stumbled upon Atari, a bar that our hostel had recommended for pintxos, but it was packed wall to wall so I decided to go for a walk up the hill first for a view over the entire town. Half way up two handsome security guards stopped me and told me the park was closed. Although I had wanted to ...

After immersing ourselves in French camping park culture (miss camping one night, followed by karaoke the next night - we couldn't believe how seriously they take it!) and laughing that our friendly mechanic who helped fix our car door ended up working at the camp bar by night...we hit the road further south to join the 'van clan'. We were lucky to get a spot in an 'aire' (motorhome stop) for a few nights in Biarritz, a French town just north of Spain. The spot was across the ...

... a really short walk from the hotel, but just down a different road. After walking up that big hill I was relieved that we were going downhill home!

Mitch was definitely in need of a steak and some veges and that's just what he cooked for dinner. It's disappointing that I'm feeling under the weather in such a beautiful place but I'd much rather feel that way here, where we're only just relaxing anyway, than somewhere like Paris, trying to do all the sights. Bed.
