Before the 19th century it was all swamp, but they then planted hundreds of miles of Pine trees which the environment, making the land stable enough to live and work on. There are also large lakes here and we went to Hourtin Plage, on Lake....... This is another lovely spot, the Aire was like a campsite, with grass generous pitches, just metres from the lake and its beach. ...

    ... benefit, but having class from 9 to 5 is EXHAUSTING. After that not only does everything start to close, but I'm so tired that I have no energy when I get back and I still have homework. It's like working a full time job in the summer. Thank god for short days on Wednesdays and Fridays though. This Wednesday I have a few plans to do some exploring on my own and free my mind.

Class started on the beach with a safety talk about today's conditions, the currents and how things would work as a group in the water. Then we were told about how to select a wave: make sure it's parallel to shore, frothy white all the way along and a decent distance from the wave before it so we would have time to prepare ourselves to mount our boards. ...

    ... sun, reading our books and swimming. It was paradise. Brendan especially, is loving the sun here, as even he can lay out all day and not get burnt. Miracle! We thought we better work on our tans as best we can, before we head to Scotland and lose it all.
