      ... about 1 hour on the boat. There is residential along the shoreline and half way up the mountain most of the way around the lake, the further we get away from Como although it begins to thin out and clear townships can be seen.
      Menaggio is, like all the other towns, a holiday destination and at this time of year most of the places are closed. We find somewhere to have lunch and then spend the afternoon wandering through the alleyways ...

      Well from the outside of city there is a breathtaking view of the upper town but once you are in it I woudn't say the same. Still there is plenty to see wandering around the streets and lots of lovely churches to explore. But it's definitely not the best medieval town in Italy.

      ... buses to get to our hostel. After about an hour that included bus rides and lots of stairs, we arrived at the hostel, where we dropped off our stuff and left to explore the city.

      We first went to try to figure out the busses and trains (Abby wanted to go to Pisa the next day) in the lower city. However, we were at a loss and gave up on that idea. We headed to the Citta Alta, which is the upper medieval city ...

      ... happening there (there wasn’t). I took the Metro back to the hotel and stopped at an ATM to get a bit more cash, as I wanted to pay cash for the hotel bill to get a 10% discount. Back in the room, I had a shower and got my packs organized for the long trip home tomorrow. It was a bit of a challenge to fit the two bottles of wine into the packs.       ... a street full of bars and restaurants. Being 9pm, and on a Saturday, it was no surprise that most places looked full both inside and outside. We chose a restaurant that looked like it might have a few spaces and that looked pretty cool with a cocktail bar.
