Getting a taste of Monty
We heard good things about Montevideo and we heard bad things about Montevideo - but ultimately, Ben and I decided it couldn't hurt to spend 36 hours exploring the capital of Uruguay (a country that I couldn't have picked out on a map a year ago). And as we expected, the trip had its ups and down.
The weekend started at Aeroparque - the …
A day in mini Buenos Aires
Wow, what a different experience it was being on one of the famed Argentine night buses! We had paid a very small amount more for "cama" service, rather than “semi cama” (which we are used to…). I was hoping to be able to lie down flat but that was not the case, however the seats were much wider, we had a pillow and a blanket, …
Crazy city!
Exploring, beaching and relaxing
Straight to Montevideo
Well actually we had a few days in Buenos Aires first but why ruin a terrible pun?
You can get to the capital of Uruguay in 3 hours, so we did. In a rare example of South American efficiency, the immigration officials of both countries sit next to each other and stamp you out of one country and into the other in about 10 seconds. Although …

Seems a bit sketchy from the outside, but the rooms are very clean and well maintained. For the price (about 40$ for a double), I think it is very good value. There's a small tv, fridge, and decent amount of space in the room. It's in a great part of town (close to restaurants and things to see/do). I would definitely recommend it.

Small rooms, but safe and clean. Right in the middle of everything, and outside Ciudad Viejo, where you don´t want to go after dark. Very helpful elderly staff. Good value for the buck, payed 800 a night for a double.
