I thought I'd be sending this from home, but lo and behold wifi in the hotel-nightmare getting connected, but here I am. I have kept a log of stories in the computer, so I'm going to do some cutting and pasting-bear with me, I'm going to put separate entries so you can see where I've been. It has been quite atrip to say the least. Went to the Taj today and it was spectacular. You can't imagine it's size without being here - wow!

i got cut off last night while trying to upload, so this morning i got 300 minutes of internet time. i leave tonight and am really excited to be home in the cold weather, not that it's been hot here, i just need familiar. it has been an experience, and yesterday's excursion to the Taj and agra red fort were wonderful (although hazy) and has peaked my interest to return to what everyone's idea of india is, and not the remote mountain areas - although the people were much nicer there. Delhi - A shock to the senses

So after months of planning and organising to within an inch of our lives we set off. We flew Gulf Air via Bahrain. In the run up to Christmas Bahrain Airport was a weird experience. A real collision of cultures. Animated polar bears and Santa together with middle eastern dress. Still, the toilets began to prepare us for the joys to come.

Our flight to Delhi was delayed but when we did arrive there was none of the chaos we were told to expect. However as is often the case it wasn't to ...

Onward to Amristar!

... she said) We elected to do this, as we start out the trip, as this style seemed to suit our itinerary. The first leg out of Delhi will be to take a day train (2nd Class A/C Chaircar) to Amritsar on the India/Pakistan Border. This is the location of the famous Golden Temple, holiest of Sikh shrines.

I will attach a few photos of Delhi street scenes which I took the day before we caught the Shatabi Express to Amritsar.

Our first day in Delhi

... of the roasted salt on top and we've got a delicious "winter treat". He does the same thing with a handful of spanish peanuts, so they come out crunchy, toasted, warm and slightly salted. Overall it was pretty amazing. I can't believe I've never even heard of cooking popcorn like this before. It is completely without any oil whatsoever, it is amazingly easy, and the cooking in the salt doesn't actually make it too salty. I'm totally going to try this when I get back to the ...
