With that we were over the border into Austria. We barely touched the Italian peninsula, with so much in the north and having already been to Tuscany and Rome, we felt like we had a good dose of Italian life – including the heat, hopefully more to come at some point!

... and after seeing many gold, silver and precious stone treasures (from the church) we saw the famous Four bronze horses. They were horses that had been stolen by Venice, than by Napoleon for France and then brought back to Venice. After that we walked across the square to the Doge's palace. ... we talked it over it all made sense as deliveries, service repairmen, individual boat owners, taxis and vaporettos were all sharing the canals going about the business of the day. Everything truly had to come and go by boat. We saw garbage boats, boats delivering sheets to the hotels and everything in between going up and down the canals.
