... scenery was beautiful and the water calm. We were missing all the wildlife we have seen the last few weeks until we saw a white mountain goat standing on a rock right on the edge of the water. From a distance he looked like a big white dog. When we got closer he looked like he was wondering what he was doing by the water and how to get back to his mountain. We anchored in Fitzgibbon Cove and had lunch. It was a great spot, but we decided to move on closer to the ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada mvpandora... which was beautiful but also had plenty of mosquitoes. Our first stop the first stop was Quesnel, a lovely historical town set on the Fraser River, with some lovely old buildings and a Cornish water wheel. We had a short walk along the riverfront but it was starting to rain and the Provincial Park we wanted to visit nearby was closed due to pine beetle damage, so we continued north.

The first thing we did at Prince George was head to the Subaru dealer! The mechanic ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada sarzmc... the Coast Range and I did get a few glimpses of the mountains between the clouds. Lots of relief, snow, glaciers and the road follows the Skeena river. The river is a classic subarctic glacier fed river running bank full this time of year. About half way through the Coast Ranger the bio zone changes to costal with large cedars, hemlocks and very dense undergrowth. Moss clings to most trees ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada twinotterdriver... and Timm's girlfriend, Steph. They had dropped their catch off yesterday and said that it's been a really slow start to the season. We boarded the boat and tagged along as he motored up the coast back to Port Ed to fill the hold with ice and load some bait fish. After the lengthy process, we returned to Rupert on the boat, watching as the passing cruise ships loomed overhead and porpoises played in our wake ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada zigdog1Well, I knew it was too good to last. Our nice weather from yesterday is gone. All it has done today is rain, rain, rain. I guess this is why there is a temperate rainforest in this part of the world. This has definitely become a day of rest. We slept in, had a leisurely breakfast ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada eagle46... t think I'm ever going to live it down! Matt: During our time on the ferry we were hounded by an American tourist who seemed intent on cross examining us at every opportunity no matter what we were doing. This guy was in his 50's, obese, had a long platted silver mane and was wearing a terrific combination of dungarees and a straw hat - alarm bells were ringing! He confirmed his redneck/hillbilly status by announcing that he was a mule trainer from somewhere down south (we ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada timdabunny... straight ahead. There was only one problem. About 15 minutes into the drive, I became aware of the fact that I was facing into the setting sun. Sensing the urgent need for another U-turn if I wanted to arrive in Prince George, I sheepishly tucked in my tail between my legs, so to speak, and proceeded to drive in the right direction - east! What an ignominious end to a 5,000 km trip that I had navigated almost flawlessly! Coming Soon: Alaska/Yukon - The Epilogue
Prince George, British Columbia, Canada lobo...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada moko... a little while. They have a motorhome and they're towing a jeep wrangler. I can't imagine their gas mileage, but they left Harrisburg on May 1 and they won't be back until the end of July. Makes me seem like a pussy (unless you count the part about them having a queen size bed and running water and me having a futon in a truck bed and a nalgen bottle). Mom sprang for a cabin (nice amenity) which means that even ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada il_chambero... Dream' cruise ship berthed outside our hotel window. We have had a quick look at the main street, and intend to walk around this afternoon, before catching the Skeena Rail train to the Rockies tomorrow morning. Still enjoying the trip, although we are tired from the late twilights and early mornings, and tend to fall asleep as soon as we get any rocking motion of a bus or boat. Will send next instalment after Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. Best wishes from Laurie and Mary-Alice.
