... day machines. I hate to think how many lost their lives in all this construction.

Finally down the pass and into the wonderful historic town of Bormio where I take a left turn towards Gavia pass.

In all the times I have been to this area I have never yet managed to get over this pass and so its a new road to add to my list.

I follow the river out of Bormio and pass through some of the old and wonderful historic buildings and am finally onto the main ...

... to a castle. The food and service were wonderful and despite being stuffed from 3 weeks of traveling and eating, we managed to force down another great meal.

We are safely home and back on our lake here in Cleveland. Travel always changes one, though, and we feel changed by this trip. We loved the beauty of Lucca and Bologna -- I think we will always feel that Lucca could be our home and Bologna ...

... br> parallel to the main motorway (which appeared to be elevated on concrete piers
most of its route). The motorway was busy and even the local road was busy, Not
pleasant driving. This is a main north-south arterial route.

Stopped at Camping Corones. Luxurious site, with heated
sanitary facilities and a heated outdoor pool, but somehow we did not like it.
Full of Germans and very “ordered” parking.

... Had coffee then walked a few km to a lake, where we had a picnic
lunch, with a school party and many others. Nice place though.

Walked back and then down to the base of the chairlift,
to take the gondala back to the base station. Had a quick look around Calvalese.
      Nice enough, nothing special.

Called in at the supermarket on the way back, plus LPG
refill (one and a bit tanks, 0.90 euro per litre). ...

Beautiful driving, through Corvara and Colfosco

The weather has been better than expected. Low cloud
initially in Cortina but then improving. No rain at all, despite the forecast,
other than the odd spot or two. Just goes to show that the forecasting in this
region is a black art still.

Left Camping Olympia and headed towards Corvara in Badia
      and then ...
