From there it's hopefully self-explanatory. You can either just view the images (the slideshow option is nice and you can skip forward and back quite easily), or buy prints, canvases etc.

Vamonos, amigos!

... to a market in Sacqsili. I need to catch up...haven't written about Ecuador at all. Starting from the beginning....
Arrived in Quito, flying in after an 8 hour flight from New York. Straight to The Secret Garden Hostel in the Old Town. We started our week long Spanish classes the next day with the lovely Jackie. The week consisted of waking up and having breakfast on the rooftop overlooking Quito. We started our ...

Day 112 - Quito - Big Sports Club

... we had left yesterday.

It transpired that Carolina had been trying to contact us to change our arrangements, and it so happened that, had we been able to be contacted, we would have found that she lived not far from the Midad Del Mundo, where we had been earlier. So we grabbed a taxi and returned about three quarters of the way back in a taxi for $5.50.

Carolina and her family lived on a very secure compound, and one of the attractions of this compound was a sports ...

Quito is cold!

... the room and told them we were moving on.

(At this point on returning I discovered my camera was missing with all my photos from Cuba and Latin America. Very upsetting but was way too weak to grasp full meaning. Did fill out a claim in time though).

Due to my condition remaining the same as it had been for the past 4 days plus a new dry cough we decided we should make a trip to the hospital to find out what was going on. Luckily our hotel hosts were very kind and ...

Day 3 - Spanish Lessons and Quito

... into almost complete immersion learning and every one was speaking Spanish to us until we were very confused. I am seriously considering this school or one like it for Patrick after he turns 18 and shows more responsibility.

With school out of the way, our afternoons were free to wander about the city of Quito. Let me start by saying that I am not a big fan of big cities. There are too many people, too many cars, too ...

Sometimes It's Okay to be a Lemming

... Just watch, Kim, I’m going to pass you up running when I get home ;) Maybe I can even run the marathon in August! (okay, maybe I’m getting a bit too ambitious).

I was so happy on Saturday when we went out to dance, and the music wasn’t all reggaeton (it’s cool after 3 songs, then it gets pretty old). We danced salsa and merengue, and that was when I really felt alive. Vicente said, "El baile esta en ...

Caught Slippin

... think of myself as a victim when this could have been easily avoided. My inner frat-boy wanted to cross back over to Peru and introduce five knuckles to my perpetrator's faces and start breaking jaws. Thank God Iīve come a long way since my college days. Would the driver used the knife with violence against me? Doubtful. The look on his face was clearly that of a novice thief. I think the knife was even shaking under his nervous hand. I do know itīs not worth ...

Close encounters with eggs at the Equator

... itself and much weaker as a result, regardless of size!
4. The balancing egg. There was an amusing competition on who could successfully balance an egg on a nail. I'd succeeded in doing this a few days before where we crossed an equatorial line; but this challenge was proving harder. The winner's certificate went to a guide, who obviously knew the insiders tips on balancing. Either that or I'm a sore loser! :o)

Moving on, we were given a taste of ancient ...

Ecuador - arrival in South America

... I found it I met an agitated looking Dane. He was the first gringo I'd seen in a long time and he was bursting to tell me something as we lined up to withdraw cash.
'Have you been robbed yet?' he asked excitedly.
'What do you mean 'yet'?'. He made it sound so inevitable.
'Oh, I've been robbed three times' he said with a hint of glee. 'The last time was in Colombia last week'
'What happened?' I asked, intrigued.
'I took a night bus. People say 'Don't take night buses' but, you ...
