Today we went to Praia A Mare. It's roughly a 2 hour drive from Fagnano Castello up the coast.
We hire beach umbrellas and beach chairs till early afternoon and relax and swim in the beautiful ocean. Praia A Mare also has a blue grotto where you can either take a tour for €5 per person or hire paddle boats like we did for €12 per person and oddly yourself there and jump in for a swim.

We were picked up the day before at the square in Santa Maria for the 30 mins drive into the mountains, much cooler thank goodness. Staying at L'Antico Convent, B&B in Rocco Cilento. Wonderful place with 10 rooms, fantastic host Paola and his wife Concheta who does the cooking. Incredible 4 course meal, everything home made, even the sausage and of course the pasta. Breakfast again was right down my alley....2 ...

... all had to duck our heads it was so low! Well worth the 7 euros each.

Then we went into the castle courtyard and went up on the balcony for lunch at The Bounty Bar where I had salmon ravioli (so good) and Neil had gnocchi which he raved over. Had a 1/2 litre of the local white wine, which was good too. By this time the rain had followed us from Stresa and we just had a quick wander around the streets of Sirmione before making ...

Train Time Musings

... with the skyline so the little fishing boats seem like they are floating in a grey abyss. Travelling, particularly on these slow travel days allows you to fill up on so many poetic and meaningless thoughts. It makes you feel physically full and clearheaded, like having some kind of quiet epiphany. Since I have near 7 hours left of this 9 hour train journey, and only a couple of short stories to go, and even less daylight hours, I thought I'd stream-of-conscious my thoughts so ...
