    ... days in Colorado we had a head/crosswind for the first thrity miles. Amazingly as we started the ascent to La Veta Pass, the winds were suddenly at our back and we just cruised up the five mile climb to a summit of 8700 feet.     We pulled out of camp at 9:00 this morning--the sky was full of smoke that is floating up from the Los Alamos fire in New Mexico. We heard that the Arizona fire is either out or under control but the one in New Mexico is still going strong. What a mess. The mountains that we could see clearly yesterday are topped off with a yellowish haze of smoke that you can see drifting along in the sky for miles. We did run out of the smoke later which was ...
